So my aunt came down the other day, and she's a city cop. And she was telling me that they all just attended a class about lieing and drugs and stuff like that ... but she told me that the way cops are being trained to tell if you're lieing or not, is by the way your eyes move. Like, obviously you have to look relaxed overall and not be all jumpy (hopefully your not trippin balls in this case), but also, looking away from their eyes too much will do it. The big thing though, is when you're telling a story or explaining something, and you're recalling details, your eyes will trail to the right if you're making it up, and they'll trail to the left if you're really recalling details. Think about it - it's totally true. And now that you know that, it's really not that hard to control which way you let your eyes wander when you're making shit up. Just remember, left = truth, right = bullshit.
yeh i think it's different for lefties... i look right all the time when i'm telling a (true) story and trying to recall details, exactly what someone said etc. so it's not all foolproof! when i'm outright lying (which is rare, i have no shame) i'll look directly at the spot between their eyes.
Thats my problem. Cops fuck with me alot cuz I never look them in the eye. I guess its so hard to when you know your gonna bust out laughing at them if you do.
It works maginificently actually. I learned to "read" people this way in Sociology class a few years ago, and it has rarely failed. People tend to look away, to the right corner when they are lying, trying to think of something up.
