I watched The 5000 Fingers of Dr T at a film festival last week - it was fantastic, written and concieved by Dr Seuess, it looks like one of his books, only in Technicolour and it's about a boy whose evil piano teacher forces him and 499 other boys to play a giant piano forever, while the boy's mother is hypnotised and kept in a cage - the boys only way of escape is enlist the help of the friendly plumber. And if that's not enough, it's also a musical, and it has overtones of mccarthyism and cold war fears (it's from the 50s). it's so cool.

ooh, and the boy is called Bart and his arch enemy is Bob - so you can play spot the simpsons reference too.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory are all time faves of mine....The Wizard of Oz is the all time classic...I think they are going to re-make it in the near future...How cool would that be?

remakes...isn't part of the wizeerds charm it's old school look and it's crap special effects?
for me, anyway, it doesn't really need to be remade, it's got that classic feel already.

I always prefer the originals...But I would be fascinated to see what they would do to it if they remake it...Curiousity alone would make it worth watching don't you think?

I'm curious as to who would play Dorothy in a remake?

oh yeah, for sure....only yeah, i just know i'd go in all skeptical...I mean, it's not the wizard of Oz without Judy and without those super bung flying monkeys...Its almost like planet of the apes, or any of those countless remakes of old tv shows, it's the slightly kitsch old school visuals and terrible effects that are so that bad they are good that rock, not just the story.

    lol...don't even joke like that!!

And you're right,Frozen Moonbeam...I'm skeptical, too. They're remaking everything nowadays, even if they ruin the story line in the process. They've run out of originality and they're getting desperate. There are so many classic films I don't think should be remade, because they just can't improve upon perfection.

I think that Tim Burton was the wrong choice in re-making Charlie and the chocolate factory...He's too dark and sinister in his interpretation of seemingly innocent plots...Johnny Depp is apparently very scarey as Willy Wonka...Burton's remakes of Batman totally missed the point...The original Batman Film's were camp and funny, That's how it was meant to be and for me it worked...Tim Burtons a bit too weird for my liking...And Johnny Depp is very eccentric to boot...Nice looking feller though girls...I'm still not gay BTW...

I like Tim Burton,usually...and I usually like Johnny Depp. Although,Depp's recent films haven't been so great,in my opinion. He's had a few out that I didn't want to see. I haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,yet...I'm just not sure if I'll like it or not.

ooh, no, i haven't seen it yet - it doesn't come out here until september - but i think the burton/depp combo is great for Charlie. I mean Roald Dahl WAS was dark and sinister, I thnk it's great that someone has realised that books and films for kids can be scary and dark as well as worthwhile.
I found the first film a little shmultzy, that cheer up charlie song - ugh. The book though, I loved that, from the evil squirells to the oompa loompas songs about greedy children coming to a sticky end. I'm hoping the new charlie will be more true to that dahl world...

Mr Depp has admitted that he likes to go for movie scripts that are somewhat off-beat and away from the mainstream...I admire him for that because he must realise that he will never earn the money and become a really top film star at the box office...he appears to want to put the diversity of roles to his acting cv rather than that of the money to his bank account...Still he does alright financially though I'm sure...LOL

I think that Clash of the Titans would be a great re-make if done right. As for oldies, check out The Haunting (1963) for a true horror treat in that genre.
