Do you think in our lifetime we will be able to travel into space via civilian spaceships? Do you think the colonizing of mars will be open to civilains in our lifetime?

i think in 50 or so years, youll be able to go into space just like you can buy a ticket for an airplane.

what we we'll run out of is petrolium.

unless my wits are completely frizzled and i'm not totaly
too far way off here, many if not most launch fuels
    are not directly petrolium based.

nontheless the mass quantity consumption of them required
to blast out of earth's gravity well is not encouraging.

the prospect of alternative launch tecnologies in the longer run however very well might be.

in 50 years and possibly a good deal less
the prospect shoestring asteroid miners and lagrangian
colonies is looking more and more to be a very real possibility.

the build it youself x-15 clone in your own back yard
(if you've got a few stray million and a really big back yard)
may not directly and materialy contribute to doing so
but it's indirect inspiration may help encourage renewed
    interest in the prospect.
