So my friend Billy invites my friend Carl up to PA to stay with his girlfriend and her family for a while. Last time I talked to him, he seemed really miserable-- like he was a third wheel, that he had nothing to do, everyone alienated him for being an out-of-towner, etc (which is how I felt when Billy took me up there in April, hence why I declined all subsequent invitations).. So yesterday Carl sits on the back of the girlfriend's trunk to smoke a cigarette. He tells the girl to drive down this dirt road.. as she does, slowly, he demands her to go "FASTER! FASTER!" Then he either fell off or jumped off, landing head-first onto the road.. Billy and his girlfriend said it looked like a suicide attempt, but they're not sure. They got him back to the house and he did not remember the accident or was incapable of forming any new memories after it.. you'd say something to him or he'd do something and he'd literally not recall it a minute later. He didn't know what month of the year it was or what state he was in.. They got him to the hospital and a catscan revealed a concussion with internal bleeding. They're going to do further tests to see whether or not they need to operate.. But what everyone is wondering is: was it an accident or did he really intend to kill himself and disguise it as one?
He's had a pretty long years-long off-and-on battle with various different incarnations of speed.. I remember I've known him in certain times of his life when he'd never sleep and he'd be popping pills or snorting powder just to perform basic functions.. but I thought that was behind him, but something tells me you're probably right
