hey, ive found a site that sends absinthe to the us, several different types of it too. but is it worth the money? http://www.absinthe.bz/ is the site lemme know what u think.
well first off you have to make sure it actuly abisinth im talking the real deal not the pussyed out crap, also if it is the real deal and it looks like its for human use customs will take that shit, most absinth that is shiped to the US blows, they have absinth with no thujone which is just alcohol and is pointless to buy, good absinth is hard to come by
Good absinthe costs a lot of money, and this means there are lots places that will rip you off by selling bottles of fake stuff for $300. real absinthe will have around 260 parts per million of alpha-thujone, most modern varieties are around or under 10 ppm. if all your looking for is a buzz look for worm wood oil. Just a warning though, its potent and the stuff can kill in a high enough doses. the LD50 rating of thugone is about 45mg/kg... ei causes death 50% of of hte time at that dose. LD100 is at 60mg/kg. so a 3.7 gram or 0.13 0z dose will kill a 150lb person.
cousinit....are you sure the LD50 you list is for human beings and not a lab animal? after all, such tests are never done on people because of obvious reasons. where did you get this info? often humans and animals metabolize different substances in different manners, and what is very dangerous for an animal may be less dangerous for humans, and vice versa. i know thujone isn't supposed to be good for you in excess, but they DO allow other high-thujone herbs to be used for culinary purposes, such as common sage. i seriously doubt that absinthe, used in moderation and infrequently, is too very dangerous. of course, drinking a few fluid ounces of wormwood oil is a terrible idea, but i dunno.... just curious as to where you got your information from.
well 3.7g should kill a 150 pound mouse. though I'lll point out I used the mouse rating becasue they have one of the higher tolerances of lab animals tested. they dont test for ld50 on people do to obvious ethicle reason worm wood oil only contain trace amunts of thugone, and I know herbal shops sell it for making tea, and that somepeople drink it regularly. You would have to consume a lot to kill yourself in a single dose. but it can acumulate in your body over repeated doses, and this where peopl get into trouble with it. oh Part of the reason absinth was banned in the first place it that people were using all sorts of other toxic chemicles in it. one example... people used copper sulfate in low quality absinthe to give it a green colour to it.
Yeah, go for it, sounds like fun, That site does seem pretty good, a little expensive but pretty cool, !!!
I had real absinthe from Europe several days ago actually and man, a few sips gets you drunk! Yeah, I would look into the source and find out the alcohol percentage, as well as the potency (make sure there aren't so many added chemicals).
