Just a quick question Got a call today from the police department asking for my mom And they installed all these cameras on our roads now and ppl I know have gotten tickets from them Anyways I drive my moms car and she dosent really drive it that much and was just wondering if anybody thinks they would be calling because of me speeding?...I already got 1 ticket so ya.... And I was driving around yesterday for awhile so thats when I think they may have caught me

Eh, they're just cameras they put on stoplights. If you run a red light, they take a snapshot of your liscence plate and send you a ticket in the mail (or maybe they call you, I dont know). It's not like the road is lined with video cameras that zoom onto your face and record everything you're doing inside the car. There are a lot of pointless stupid laws, but I don't think stopping for a red light is one of them. I dont' see how this is "Orwellian" - its just a single picture of your license plate, and that picture is only taken if you break a perfectly reasonable traffic law. I've only seen cameras that get you for speeding on the highway. No offense, but you'd have to be pretty retarded to keep speeding when you can see a big camera hanging above the road ahead of you.
What DOES piss me off is the stupid kids that live around here that are killing themselves driving fast. Two guys from my highschool (one of them I was sort of friends with) decided to drive 180 mph down a winding, hilly road that was lined with trees in order to "hill hop." Hop a hill they did, and my understanding is that they were still in the air when they slammed into a tree, and they died instantly. This happened last summer. Both kids would have been Juniors in highschool last fall. During the previous school year, a sophomore from my school was driving down county line, a road I can see out my back window. The speed limit was 55. The kid was driving eighty in a Ford Explorer. On the wrong side of the road. Going up a hill. Genius, I know. There was a car coming the other way, driving on the correct side, so when they reached the top of the hill and saw the oncoming vehicle they swerved back into their lane, too far, and into the grass on the otherside. Then they once again overcorrected as they were going down the hill. The truck flipped multiple times before slamming into a tree. The drivier died, and the passenger was beaten badly. I hear his face looks quite different now. They decided to lower the speed limit on county line to 45 because of this. Which pisses me off, because the kids were going eighty. Had the speed limit been 45 when this happened, well, it would have happened exactly the same way. They've also got a system set up - every few feet theres a little block of paint that can be picked up by special infrared censors installed in helicopters. They can use these blocks to check your speed from above and send cops to pull you over. I'm also pissed off because I live out in a country area where no cops used to patrol. Now there's always at least a few cops crawling around, so it's not really a safe place to drive around and smoke anymore.
They probably are if you were driving like an ass, I'm glad they have those, there are way to many dicks that go to my high school that think they're hot shit revving their little Honda four cylinder engines doing little wannabe burn outs and going 25 Mph in the school parking lot. Ive seen an accident almost happen every week. Then at night they come through my neighborhood doing about 70 in their parents cars on a 25 Mph speed limit road. They don't put the camera's up to monitor you constantly, their doing it for the safety of the public. If you did run a red light then they are calling you to give you a ticket then good, you deserve it. Theres no point endangering a car full of peoples lives just because you are too much of an ass to sit and wait five minutes for the light to change.
speeding isnt a joke. speed cameras are not invasions of privacy. its not privacy when it kills OTHER people
