Who got a chance to see the american version of this show? It was so funny but of course it got canceled.

I like the british version too, but I never get to see it as I don't have BBC.

mmmm, never seen the american version...don't know if I want to, because the british one was perfect and why mess with that?

i have the entire british series on DVD, it just gets better, especially the christmas ones.

    ricky gervais is a legend.

The american version is pretty different than the british one, it's more...american.

Have you checked Lackluster, er.... Blockbuster for the DVDs? I've seen them at my local store.

For those of you who've seen the British Office, did you like Series 1 or 2, better? I'd have to say 2. It REALLY got socially awkward in the 2nd series, but I was much more enthralled by it. Some of the first series dragged. Everyone connected with the show (as well as a number of viewers) point to Ep. 4 of the first series where David brings the guitar into the seminar. I don't know, but that bit just didn't do it for me.

The show hooked me during the very first episode when Chirs Finch left a message ("please leave a mass-age...") on David's answering machine. "Aw, that's derrogatory."

A hell of a good show.

yeah, see it was that british humour that hooked me in the first place. so, hmmm.

but yes, gunison, series two was fantastic. Although I do like the quiz night part of series one with the 'he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what've you done?'
The christmas specials were my absoloute favourite part though.

anyone been to http://www.rickygervais.com/? oh, the officey-goodness is magic, especially the stuff he did for live 8.

    I've seen both.
UK was the first and is by far the better version.
As is most comedy imo, English is better.

I love The Office...it's great. I didn't see the American version, but the commercials I saw advertising it were really funny.
Do any of you know the name of the theme song from The Office?

I like the american version(since I've never seen the brit one) and according to the NBC site it has not been cancelled. Apparently that's just a rumour and a second season is coming up! Yay, more office!

    The USian version sucked.

Americans cannot handle the idea of subtlety. They have to light up a joke with 50,000 volts and underline it with THIS IS A JOKE LAUGH

The understated situational humor of the office doesn't work in America - well, in Hollywood. I can just see the meetings "so this Brent guy. I love it. Over the top. Zany. Screaming at people. Pretending to be Hitler in front of Orthodox Jewish clients. No, no no. Don't leave it at having em called Goldberg. Make sure dey have dem pope hats on. NO! Hasidic. Like those Amish guys, big beards and HUGE star of David pendants. People might not get the joke so make sure he's doing a lot of goose stepping and saying "oven" every tree seckinds."

It died a well deserved death.

    ahaha, iron goth, yup.

one of the great things about the british version is how they didn't always go for the obvious, sitcom style joke (this becomes more obvious if you watch the dvd extras and see what they cut out)

yes, some things were obvious - like brent's dancing, but other more understated stuff, like the way he always sidles into the camera, or gives it little glances to make sure it's watching him were the funniest part.

    Liversteam:

There's a difference between the British version

"Well, I mean, I was doing this version of (Bob Marley song) and I mean, (name of black character) said it was great!" (e.g. implying that the Token Black Guy would be the arbiter of whether or not his cover was OK)

    versus

"Hey! You there. You're obviously good at basketball cause you're black."
    "Hhhhey. Can I play senor?"
"No, we'll talk to you during BASEBALL SEASON".

Not quite so subtle. As subtle as elephant rape.

No, for me when the same joke is beaten to death, it kills it.
