no offense, but thats because you are 16 The original is definately a bit "hokey" for the new generation of movie fans, while the remake is atrocious (sp?) for older fans
Ugh...no doubt. Totally preposterous and melodramatic, especially that last scene with Lily Taylor. I still can't watch her in anything to this day. A lot of people compared it to the remake of "The House on Haunted Hill" since they came out the same year, but "House on Haunted Hill," while far from being a good movie, was campy fun and didn't take itself too seriously.
just cos i'm only 16 doesn't mean i can't like the original, i do, i'm just saying i prefer the new version. i think its because the Willy Wonka character seems more eccentric, or just plain wierd. and there are things i didn't like about it, like when they go to see his dad at the end, and i thought all the history of Wonka was kind of unnescesary (however you spell that) also the Oompa Loompas are not so creepy in this one, which i like
I agree with you that, if it was intentionally made as a farce or parody, then the film should be looked at and enjoyed for its intentions. A good example of what you're saying is the original 'Star Wars' movie. On the surface it looked like a hugely expensive film ruined by a lot pathetic Hollywood cliche's, but Lukas was intentionally referencing these old cliche's like the 'bar-room scene' in order to pay homage to the cultural archetypes these cliche's have become over time. One can say the same about much of Tarentino's work. And I do enjoy it more when I am aware of the references being made. I didn't know that about 'The Stepford Wives', or I might have enjoyed it more instead of comparing it to the original. A perfect example of Quest_techie's point. If one doesn't know the sub-plot that's being referenced, the film loses much of its impact. 'Star-Ship Troopers' is another good example of a film that would seem goofy if one didn't catch the ironic contemporary comment being made by the film.
they made a ghetto version of that 80's movie "can't buy me love". it sucks! but if you didn't realize this already, the movie makers are running out of ideas. pretty much all they can do now is remake old movies. they've even resorted to making movies out of old tv shows. i think the movie days are ending.
Ive seen the remake and seeing as Im not a fan of the original, it didnt help or do the original justice. As for the worst remake, I dont even count Psycho as a remake, it doesnt even deserve to be called a remake. But I think The Fog remake will take the crown as worst horror remake of all time.
i can't think of a worse remake than the Amereican version of the first godzilla movie, you take the original japanese movie and clips in a some clips there a american journalist translate the japanese..
I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! ..i can't think of any bad bad remakes. I guess I'm not a great movie buff
I gotta disagree.... I was reading the book when you were 5 years old. The Movie was top notch. It was true to the book and had WAY BETTER ACTING then the BBC TV series. The guy who played aurther dent on the BBC looked like Bob Sagat and acted like Bob Sagat in a Coma. Zaphod was cool on the BBC, but he totally rocked in the movie! Mos Def played Ford to perfection..... Trillian on the BBC was totally annoying with that squeaky voice. The new movie is my favorite movie of the entire year....by far!
