You are a woman. You are allowed to do whatever you want.

Well good, at least I'm not alone then! ;)

Believe it or not, even though I'm turning 27 in less than a week, I still have to battle a zit or two here and there, mainly right before that lovely time of the month. Ugghh, I thought those things were supposed to end by now? Guess not. ;)

    IMO:

Girly = feminine in a cliché way
    Feminine = mature expression

I don't act girly, but I am very feminine in behaviour... Of course, skipping every once in a while is fun as well. :p

i have a problem with the question.

To me, Girly is a SUB-CATEGORY of Feminine. Feminine is a broad definition and is basically what you think a woman is (or should be). This INCLUDES "girly", as well as "womanly", or "sporty/athletic", or whatever, etc etc. I mean, what is feminine? What makes a woman feminine? There are many different ways that can make a woman feminine and "girly" is just one of them.

The two arent even on the same level to compare.

i think feminine is more a word i reserve for an adult woman, who see' s life in longer view. a girl, worries more about the moment. feminine is less in a hurry and less jumpy than girly behaviour. feminine could return a look with grace , whereas girly would giggle and look away.

Hun, they may take a hiatus but I still get them too.

I always have thought of girlie as a more trendy version of feminine, more fluffy. I guess it is a sub catagory. I did think of feminine as a more all encompassing classic thing. Example: Little black dress/feminine..Little black dress with trim, bows or cut outs/girlie. That was well put. I can't agree with the athletic thing as that is not uniquely feminine, both genders are those things.

I classify girly as rather preppy. Into make-up and cutesie things. Often immature. Very giggly. When I think girly I tend to think Hillary Duff and Paris Hilton. The type girls who you'll usally find hanging around at stores like Claires.

As far as feminine, I think of strong, bright women, with a sort of mystical air around them. Very elegant and refined. 'Feminine' seems to bring up visions of ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian goddesses. Strong, smart, elegant, gorgeous, and mysterious. It really has little to do with look though, it's all in the personality.

. It is being comfortable with your sexuality and loving your being a womyn.
    QUOTE]

Girlie is youthful.........only with maturity comes femininity because it is not an outward show, but an inward confidence that becomes your aura.

girly is what you are already, feminine is what you may attain later on with some effort.

hi all , I dont normally go onto "Women's issue" forums of any type , but the headline on the main page caught my attention for a particular reason.

Can I just point out as a male ,that I havent started wearing sequined dresses with a feather boa standing on a stage singing "There aint nothing like a dame"LOL

Anways , I met a girl recently ( ok Ive offended some of you already) and I was just like well blown away by her.( see a few pages back on the Love and Sex, and the Relationships forum).Cut along story short , Im in England , shes in Europe , shes a Russian lapdancer , I didnt know what to do , but Ive decided to go back and see if it can "develop".( Go on say Im a shallow twxx etc etc!: )but I didnt even think about sex for ages after)

I couldnt put my finger on a lot of it but I think it was the fact she was "girlish" that was a big part of it was about.

TO me , "girlish" means youthful ,with passion , funloving, ideallist , fresh , enticing , not worn or old or hardened. The opposite is "womanly" or "boyish".Womanly to me means like a 50 year old woman - filled out , worldwise /whatever , possibly with a hardened cynical or "progressive "/ tough edge , say a mother of a a few kids and entirely differnt- no offence meant to anyone.

To me "feminine" implies sort of a "predominantly like this " type of thing.Sort of saying that "masculine traits" are part of womanhood. It also implies theres sort of a "competitiveness" vs men , to me anyway.

The replies here I think in some way show that sort of differnce but Im surprised at girlish seems to be something for the girls , oops ladies , oops women to condemn.
    _____________
This girl who was girlish wasnt weak or immature or whatever,She was a tough tough cookie leaving Russia for the unknown and doing a degree and fluent in a number of languages. To me her "girlishness" was a massive plus point. It didnt mean I could manipulate her or anything.
Just I thought it was so refreshing to see.

I just get the feeling that some girls/woman in Britain and America are told "a modern woman has to be aggressive ,manipulative , pushy , doing thinks like binge drinking , fighting etc etc" - like some of the worst aspects of us guys.

My friend was blown away by another Russian girl .
I actually said "it shows how far our women have gone backwards in the past few years".I know that might make some of you livid.
But trust me , Id love to say I love everything about modern British / US women but the truth is the sexes in GB?US are becoming too much like competitors, maybe not even liking each other let alone loving each other.

there was a thread on the Relats forum about the "gender sterotypes etc" this week.
    where this was discussed.

Anyway , thats my view .Would be interested to hear what any of u think
    Take care all.!

you two have come very to my definitions of girly vs feminine. feminity is grace, power, celebration and sexuality; girliness is the superficial uncentered attempt at being feminine. I think that the joyfulness that comes from celebration is somewhat alike to girliness, but it has a foundation of feminity...
(Please know that if you're offended by this, you don't understand what I'm trying to say. It's probably simply a misunderstanding, or that we don't have matching definitions of girliness)
