OPEC's cutting production shifts the supply curve to the left, which causes a price increase, all else being the same. The quantity demanded actually decreases when this occurs, everything else being the same. The overall demand curve is something that is independent of shifts in the supply curve.

The govt could offer people tax cuts for driving smaller more efficient cars. Simple idea. Simple to implement and it would have beneficial results. It also wouldn't be a govt intrusion because it would leave the choice up to the people. But the govt is reluctant, because it's not in the interest of oil and auto companies.

There was someone from a conservative think-tank group on C-SPAN (don't remember who) who was talking as if the govt encouraging hybrid production was somehow taking choices away from the people. I still can't figure out his warped reasoning.

I think there's a tax break for people who buy hybrids. I'd have to check on the details.

In short, there's a lot more the govt could do to encourage conservation and efficiency. I just find it incredible that we are in 2005 and driving cars with fuel economy worse than it was in the 60s.

I like bashing bush - it's one of my favorite passtimes, considering he speaks in confusing riddles of idiotic proportions.
Also, he is evil for belonging to the freemasons AKA, the evil empire and promoting the new world order. His lists of sins are endless.

  4. look at google earth..... or maps.google.com those are civillian satellites, those are photo satellites, basic basic tech compared to what there is out there...... if satellites honestly said that there were weapons of mass destruction there were, we also had amazing spy planes doing fly overs, if there had been true evidence of weapons of mass destruction we should have known exactly where they were,

we didn't so that and other factors (downing street memos, weapons inspectors) tells me that he was deliberatly lying, that he had information that he either chose to ignore (weapons inspectors) or that he is just flat stupid......

I think that thing alone gives me a right to bash him

then you have his 50 trips to his ranch in texas, spending a great deal more of his travel allowance than he has to on frivolous things

as for getting to that level and being able to do it if you're incompotent, gotta say gerald ford here, also gonna bring up warren harding, neither got the presidency through any skill of their own, ford happened to be in the right place at the right time and harding did as he was told..... certainly a blithering idiot can drop into office

I will continue to bash bush, speak of his inability to pronounce nuclear and compare him to dan quayle

Why don't we just move the White House to Texas. :)

    .

  6. because than we'd have to pay a shitload to move the whole of the government to texas and if no one wanted to keep it there we'd have to pay a whole shit load to move it back

the amount of money wasted would be monumental

then future presidents would be able to get away with it, more money wasted.....

it would be a dangerous precedent.....

The document Clinton signed did not say that America would go to war with Iraq. He was giving money to democratic groups within Iraq.

And even if the bill did say that he wanted America to go to war with Iraq, it's not like the Bush administration fought this kicking and screaming. Why didn't they try to overturn the law? Why didn't they just not act on it, the way you're saying Clinton did? The Bush administration is not following orders, because there are ways they could have avoided it. So your argument holds little ground as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, what the heck. It would still be cheap compared with the $300 billion we've spent on Iraq. :)

I think we should have a roving White House, much like how they have those roving Viet Nam memorials and the roving Arlington West cemetary. Then people like Bush who are afraid to go outside their little territory will feel more at home. :)

Comparing Bush to Quayle? Man. That's an insult to Quayle's intelligence.

Then you must not be middle class. Gasoline prices are harming us all. My home business is suffering, because my service (lactation consulting) is seen as "non essensial" when people can barely pay their bill. I still have freinds who were solidly middle class in the Clinton years declaring bankruptcy, and even losing their houses, due to debt and NO jobs, or jobs which pay half of what they were making 6 years ago. My family is now spending several hundred dollars a month on medical copays, when just a few years ago, we were paying less than $100.00 per month. And we are paying much more for the privelege. (At least we still have insurance, many of my freinds have lost their health insurance AND their pensions.)

If you think the Middle Class aren't suffering, you must not be part of it.

All that means is that people who were looking for work either gave up, or got kicked off of unemployment insurance.

Well ain't that nice for you. Spoken like a true Republican. "Everything's OK for me, so fuck everybody else." That's the attitude that got Bush in the White House and destroyed our economy, my freind. Glad you have a job and full insurance, you are not amoung the majority.

No, only if you include having a place to live and feeding your kids living "beyond your means." How many children do YOU have to feed and send to school?
    What I SAID was:
They don''t all have the SAME jobs, some of them. Those were outsourced. They had to get other jobs, many of which pay a good deal less than the ones they had. But many of those who did keep their jobs had their wages cut. My own DH had his OT cut (oh, he still has to WORK the OT, he just doesn't get paid for it) and when that happened our income was cut by 15%. I have three friends who work for the airline industry, they have taken well MORE than a 15% pay cut, only to have their PROMISED pension cut recently.

Glad everything is so peachy for you.

I think you know as well as anyone that those “new” jobs created are low paying jobs with no benefits. You’re just such a shill for the Republicans that you can’t think beyond your talking points.

The only one robbing you is Bush!

Said like a true Republican. No empathy.

I wonder who's going to pay for the nearly half trillion dollar per year deficts that have been run up lately. There was a time when the Republicans promoted a responsible fiscal policy and wanted to run the government efficiently and more like a business. Something has gone terribly wrong with the Republican party. Financially they have become very liberal but with the money going to the military instead of social programs.

Give me a half trillion a year debt to run up and I'll give people a tax break and some jobs. :)

*Flutters in wearing nothing but a short, thin white dress and angel's wings, touches everybody in this forum with his magic stick with sparks coming out and everybody is happy again and that mean mr. Bush rendered powerless and impaled by the dreadful spear of Astaroth*
