the roots of the plant need two things.
water, and air. so dont water every day, and when you do water, completely soak the soil.

Spring- dig holes big enough for a 5 gal pail to fir in. Put pro mix, some of the old soil, composted sheepand cattle shit and some perlite in the soil. Fill hole not quite full. Leave about 3". Pro mix and perlite allow the roots to run. Make the holes at least 4 feet apart. Transplant your clones and thouroughly wet your plants with straight water with ph level around 5.5 to 6.3. Add diluted high nitrogen soloution the following week. Then jump up to full potency high nitrogen soloution in the third week. Imperative to water every second day in the first week.
Summer- keep going with high- nitro soln. Even try a stronger mix until you see the leaves quail up a bit- then ease off. Prune off the little bottom branches that suck out the nutrients, but wont produce much bud. In the first week of August, start increasing the amount of Phosphorous and Potassium in the water solution, while decreasing the nitrogen. Add flowering inducing fertilizer from your local plant/flower shop or tree nursery.
Pound it with flowering type fertilizer. Miracle gro is too weak. Double or triple the dosage if u use it.
Fall- you should be seeing some bud developing by now(early Sept). In the "new moon" phase (6 days) "pinch" or "pluck" The very top of each head bud of each branch. This will cause u plant to slow vertical growth and stimulate the swelling and development of the bud. Keep watering until about the third week of Sept. Just pour water in the holes tice a week now until ripe. This will take out all of the sugars and chemicals out of the plant so it isnt too harsh. The process is called leaching. It is imperative, unless you like when weed sparks in the splif and burns u throat. Let em grow until most of the fan leaves and drop leaves have fallen off. Look for the red hairs to cover about 70% of the bud. You are now good to go!!! Cut them so that the root stays in the ground. Hang them upside down in a dark , dry place for 10-14 days. GOOD LUCK!! lemme know how it goes

    What I suggest:

Start with a quality potting soil. Fox Farms Ocean Forest is great. It's full of great organic amendments. You don't need to add any nutrients during the first 2 months. Black Gold is another good potting soil.
Dig holes knee-deep and just as wide, 6' apart. Re-fill with 100% potting soil.
I prefer organic nutrients. If you use chem's it kills benficial micro-organisms in the soil. Buy quality full-spectrum nutients at a grow shop. use according to package instructions.
Water as needed. The plants won't drink much when they're little. On hot summer days in full veg they need lots more.
To test when they need watering, stick you're finger all the way into the soil, about 6" from the plant. Water when your finger is dry.
Examine your plants often (every few days) for pests. Be sure to check the undersides of leaves.
Different strains mature at different times. Some of my early-maturing hash indica's were harvested last week; my sativa's won't be done 'til close to Halloween.
Watch the plants closely starting in early Aug. If you see balls (pollen sacs) start forming, rip these up and dispose of. They are males and will ruin your garden (males don't grow buds).
Buds will start forming on the females. Bud hairs (pistils) will start forming on the buds. This is when you switch to a flowering nutrient.
When the first hairs start to turn brown, stop using nutrients. Plain water only.
When 75% of the bud hairs change from clear/milky to re/brown, the plant is ready to be harvested.
I like to cut the branches off the plant while it is still standing.
Then I take the branches home, cut the buds off the branches, manicure and put the buds in supermarket-type paper bags, filling the bags 1/4 full. Crimp the top and keep thm in a cool dark place.
Everyday open the bag and gently comb the buds with your fingers.
When they dry to the moistness level of a good cigar, it's time for the cure.

all i did was steal my mom's top soil (she's big on plants), take some miracle grow, had a good pot (near a pond), watered it every afternoon (after school, completely soaked it),and watched it grow
