Are you pro or con? Do they help fight crime and terrorism or invade your privacy? Manhatten alone has well over 4,000 surveilance cams! And thats only the ones that are visible?

  2. not a fan of being watched......

and I know they help catch people, but how many people's privacy gets violated for those few captures?

I'm not sure how I feel on this one. I don't liked to be watched, but I like to be safe. I guess if its really neccisary like in major cities. But they have the helicopters all over So Cal so I guess they can always find you if they need too.

I live in a town with survellance cameras. Its a difficult issue Idont like being watched but Iwould like to think that when im mugged half a dozen police would turn up quickly or failing that thered be a nice picture of the guilty party following him home. There is certainly something to be said for the 'If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about' philosophy. Though I do object when you have large scale tracking system such as rf in cars and ID electronic ID cards.

i hate the way people claim theyre meant to have privacy when they enter the public domain. I wish there were more cameras in some places, as long as they dont look inside my house at all.

i especailly loath the way people complain about speed cameras

i live in the middle of nowhere so for me it isnt an issue....but in a city or town...i guess its the only time i think Big Brother watching you is a good idea...if it saves one person from being mugged or stabbed i'd gladly lose my right to privacy...and anyway...exactly what privacy would they be invading on a city street?

yes, there was a lot of rape and child-abduction occuring about 1 mile from my house. it was in this one specific spot on a street that has a 40 ft retaining wall serving as the median, so it was the perfect spot for perps. They put survelliance cameras at that one specific location and they have worked very well in detouring sex offenders. I say we lock them all up for life and prevent the problem all together.

Well, that's not my issue with it, because it is a public street.

I'm against it because it cost a lot of money to install/maintain, and it becomes useless after the sun sets. Pathetic!

we used to have cameras at stop lights to record ppl breaking the law... running red lights, mostly, but they are now no longer allowed to use them to prosecute you.

this reminds me, there are usually webcams at tourist spots... ones viewers online can move to see different areas... to look just for the hell of it
