I think I posted this already, but, I am going to give it another shot, heh. I am starting to look for colleges (eck) and I am SO lost, and was hoping some of you could help me out. I am going to be VERY specific so you know where I stand and such.

Right now I am in MI and would love to go to NYC (first), FL, CA, somewhere near the ocean, or city. NYC, or an ocean town would be my first pick.

I have a 2.8 GPA, and I am in drama club, probably doing other extra cirrculars next year.

I want to major in either English, or photography. I would like a school that would do not have to be AMAZING but will help you learn. I am also interested in studying the ocean and Biology.

An art school would be nice, l0l.

Somewhere where you can stay in dorms.

    LARGE school, 5,000+.

Not to hard exceptince, because I know that my grades are not that good, and I doubt my SAT's will be good, so, yeah. heh.

That's pretty much it...if anyone could help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Again, I think NY would be my first pick, maybe I'll stay in MI for a while too, also somewhere near the Ocean, (FL or CA) would be great! Please please please help me out, thank you!

Humboldt State (where I go) would be a good school. It is extremely cheap (although more for out of state). Even though it is a state school, it actually has a very good academic program. I can say from experience that the science program is excellent and I have heard good things of the art and english departments.

And it is in CA and it is right on the ocean. It is very very beautiful here and the people are really nice.

There are a lot of different dorms to stay in. I didn't like staying in them because I didn't like living with other people. But other people really enjoy them.

I think the school is only about 6,000 though, so it's not that big.

Here's my remark. Grow up and quit picking colleges based on geographical location. It's an education, not a vacation!

Good point, but I'm sure it's strictly relevant.

Well being a Brit I can't offer any specific advice, however....
Over we have career guidance counsellours. They work within the school/college to help answer questions and give advance on matters concerning futhur education (college, uni whatever) and careers.
If they have those where yo are then check them out. Ours are very helpful.

Or maybe you could surf the net to try and find some.

    Good luck :)

It can't be relevant considering the initial question and purpose of the college experience. She never mentioned wanting to be close to home. She only mentioned wanting to be close to the ocean. Not a significant enough reason to pick a college.

Humboldt is really easy to get in to.

Well, it was a common saying (anthem? I'm not sure, but as a kid, I always thought it was the present anthem, and I thought it was stupid) in Germany during Hitler's regime; Deutschland über alles. It means: 'Germany above everything.'

But Dead Kennedys (that very well-known punk band) did a quite famous song called California über alles and I was just listening to that song as I saw that thread, so I had to say it.

    Love,

Time to go to college, aye... you don't sound very enthusiastic, and it doesn't sound as if you're confident in your choice of study. school's expensive... don't waste it on something you're not totally devoted to. No disrespect to youngins, but at 17, 18, horizons are narrow, naturally: your choice of study is limited, you don't know what else is out there, you haven't experienced enough, and what you like as a teenager is rarely appreciated as an adult. That's a lot of money to waste. better spent checkin' things out, exploring the world, opening doors that aren't available to youth. grow up... (and I mean that in the nicest possible way)

I'd like to explore the world a little before settling down, but.............how? No money, no traveling partner (which I want) it seems simple, but, really, it's not.........

You're fortunate to earn american money, which is very valuable in other countries... a simple job over the summer and you should have more than enough for a decent trip. a traveling partner is a drag, good only for sex and money, which is very good, but you want freedom for your Self, you're traveling your road, not theirs. anyhoo.............

Location is a huge part of everyone's decision on where to go to college.

You should also know that Humboldt college is one of the, if not the biggest pot smoking school in the country. I have many friends that went there and they loved it, but it took them all a couple years longer then it should have.
