I've finally decided to get dreads and even confronted my parents about it. Now that all peoples are acepting towards it I'm anxious to getit! I just have thin hair. i was wondering if my dreads were going to be super thin and ....well ugly, sparse and spread out? I might even get extensions, i have bangs now so i'm sure those need to be extended and perhaps the extensions would add volume to my hair. what do you think? its the only thing stopping me.. ALSO i want to get it done professionally in a salon, whats a reasonable price? I dont want to get ripped off. my hair is manageable so it wouldn;t be a huge hastle. THANK YOOOOU ! LOOKIGN FORWARD FOR THE REPLIES

i dont know nuthin bout makin dreads..i just know they tend to happen if ya let em.. & dreadsare never ugly..
sure if ya go the natural route theresa period of transition where they dont look so great..but as they tighten up they look alot better..
mine i started when my hair was real short..like 2 inches or so..i started with just some beads in the back which draded fast..& the rest just dreaded naturaly slower..so for months were little dreadlets stickin out all over..but as they tightened up & started gettin longer they looked alot better
my hairs very thicktho..so just wanted to dread..with all the people doin the backcombing thing..whatever that is..u should be able to find someone to help ya out..& i bet ya they'd do a better job then any salon would

I wanted to get them properly done , none of my friends are really down with the dread-making unfortunately. thats why i'll go to a salon. natural dreading just takes too long, even though they're very beautiful and ...the obvious....natural. As for the extension warning, I'll consider that and raise the question when i find a good place. THANKS ALL peace love and knotty hair

well you should find a place that specializes in it then (& isnt predjudiced) cause your average solon would be clueless

backcombing isn't really the only way you can do dreads, and one of my friends mom works at a salon and does dreads, but ummm i would personally prefer to get someone else to do it, because she charges around 200...

Well just because it's a salon doesn't mean they know how to do dreads. If you can't find any friends to do it, then you can backcomb yourself. I did. It's a pain in the ass, but I think it's preferable to going to any salon, unless it's a special one.
