Hell no. I improvise everything. Sometimes I'll be in a certain key, but I still couldn't tell you what notes I play off the top of my head. Actually writing solos is too difficult and takes too much time.
that's what i do. i never used to solo because my mind couldn't keep up with my fingers. i know 5 or 6, out of 190+ that i've written. when i'm not soloing or writing, i pass the time playing oasis covers... lmao, i have about 60 of noel's songs memorized so i can play them exactly like he does or i can do an original version of the same song, how sad is that ?
If your talkin about knowin the letter name of the note then no. I just play around in the minor pentatonic.
i dont even know what that is, the minor pentatonic... well i've got an idea and i've studied it before, but i dont really care for it. :H long time no type, mason.
i'm doing pretty well, all things considering.... i'd get on msn to tell ya more but the computer's been really really slow all nite.
i conscious of the shapes that im playing, but not what each note is and still not always sure what something is gonna sound like when i play it, but more conscius of the pattern of the notes. i try to visualise music as a visual pattern on the fretboard. relating sounds to their visualities, and then playing the patterns. if the patterns are played in the right balance then it will sound good. i guess this is the relation between music and mathematics, the balance of the pattern
depends entirely on the song. If I have done something I liked while improvising, I try to do it again when I play it later, and sometimes will use it most all the time. for more complex solos, I think one should know what they are going to be trying, it certainly helps your bandmates anticipate the changes. sometimes, though, I just let it flow
i just let the solo come from inside of me...it's like i'm not even playing it but i am...i don't really pick where my fingers go i just let them go where they wanna go.i just let it come out.
