So all they need is a "Reichstag Fire" in late October, and Dubya can stay in office indefinitely......

I could only imagine that if such a motion were passed - mass rioting would insue.

thankfully right now there's nothing to pass (that we know of) it's just a bunch of big shots talking about "discussion". nonetheless it's very, very alarming. "heightened security measures"...wtf does that mean??? "political implications"? i'll say it has political implications! were an "attack" to occur (what would consitute an "attack" - another 9/11 or an angsty protester throwing rocks? a car bomb, or ELF destroying SUV's?) elections would be held off, just until popular opinion of the party in power peaked - a president's approval always rises in the polls after a disaster, even when he's doing a shitty job, because people are sheep and feel they have to "support their country" by bending over for whoever's in power.

I doubt mass rioting would ensue, but it would surely cause a few more sheep to wake up and see what is going on. all our government is doing is shooting themselves in the foot. corruption doesn't stand for too long, so all they are doing is destroying themselves. our society along with it, too.

    "Reichstag Fire"

    mass rioting would insue

It seems like a few people here dont remember NY during the attack.
Yes it was election day. They were voting for Mayor candidates. Among other things.
Most people here whine about Bush stealing the election.
How much whining would have go on if they would have kept the election going in NY.
People saying, I couldnt vote because the poling booth was blocked off, or had no power. Dont need a Reichstag fire, just figure out which state and which counties in the state you'll loose and have the "Terrorist take out the power".
As without proceedures to act with (postponing an election), its up to the governing powers to make up the rules as they see fit.
If there are laws saying if this happens, do it one way.. else do it the other way. Whats so scarry about that.
If I couldnt vote, due to a terrorist attack, I'd be pissed. NY did the right thing (in my opinion). Why not make up a law for it. It has happened in the past.

If this idea was ever made into law, i doubt anyone would hardly complain if elections were put off due to another big terror attack. But I have no doubt that if such a thing were ever made into a law or bill or whatever, they'd manipulate it in the same way they manipulated the patriot act......and make it to where many things like protesting and such could potentially be considered a "threat." you even said yourself, "its up to the governing powers to make up the rules as they see fit."

I think this is really scary. Maybe for some of you older people or 13 year olds you dont have to worry that much, but with my age(turning 17 august 31), id be one of the first to get drafted. makes me really think about things.......

oh and I mentioned the draft because, well since Bush wouldn't have to worry about his ratings for the election, I am almost positive that he would reinstate the draft. its scary man

if the draft was reinstated and I got drafted, two things could happen to me:

1)I would most likely run to Canada, but the Canadian government would try to send me back if they found me so I'd be a criminal that people are looking for or,
2)My dad, who is very prowar probush(he was in the army for 20 years) would figure that I would leave the country, so he would keep me locked up until I get sent to basic training, and he wouldnt take his eyes off me.

yea, Im not really scared about the 1st thing that could happen, but its the 2nd thing that would probably happen to me

I've heard of abusive parents, but that's probably the most abysmal form of abuse I've ever encountered in my LIFE. I just can't find words to express my disgust at having to share oxygen and dihydrogen monoxide with people like that.

And don't blame his complete lack of parenting ethics on the military. This war is plenty unpopular among military people.

i dont know why he is for the war and for bush, but once we were watching The Greatest, and we got to the part where Ali wouldnt accept his draft, and my dad said"i aint watchin this shit that fuckin draft dodger". and I told him that if I were to get drafted I would run to canada and since then he hasnt talked to me the same.
He thinks that this war is for the best, to prove to the world that amerika is number 1. he actually said that too

Well he is right in one respect. We've established ourselves as the #1 warmongering nation in the modern era on the planet. No other nation has launched as many militant actions against other sovereign states to force our foreign policy imperatives down the throats of other sovereign states as have we.

Bravo, give the soldier a cookie!

This postponement issue is a really freakin big deal....especially when you take into consideration that voting went on as planned during WW1, WW2 and the CIVIL WAR-a war that was in our own country.....think about it. I guarantee the election wont be postponed if Osama is found, or if there is another 'beheading'.....

People if think those shit for brains in Washington won't attempt to pass some sort of guidelines to postpone the elections in the event of a so called "terrorist" threat, you are grossly mistaken.Johnnygothisgun, you should use it,instead of agreeing that more laws to restrict the people should be passed. The enacting of the Patriot Act,pounds that red, white, and blue prick deeper into the ass of each and every one of us.By the guidelines set forth in the bullshit restrictive "bush-babble" each and every one of us posting on this thread is considered a "terrorist" and could be detained until hell freezes over,if the bush-nazis see fit.As far as mass rioting goes,HAHAHAHA,I wish.America's John Q Public is a bunch of fucking pussies, they will continue to take it up the ass and then ask for more. Before they ever take a stand in the name of freedom.Stinking-ass sheep is all they are.I do feel sorry for you soul-rebel,and having to live under the blind eye of a bush stoker. He is right in one aspect, the usa is the number one school yard bully in the world. The usa won't fuck with any country that has any balls. If I was you dude, since he thinks the usa is number one,fly the bird in a show of your support for that position of number one.People the shit is about to get deep in this country,I hope the hell that every body that can vote, this year will do so.If you don't use your right to vote, you really don't have a right to bitch.

i was thinking the same thing. because of the Patriot Act, anyone who speaks their mind against the amerikan govt is considered a terrorist, I think. and yes i believe the amerikan publuc would be too scared to protest the postponement of the elections, or the draft, or anything that the govt does. This country is too politically correct when it comes to this crap, and according to the govt, its wrong to be not politically correct.
