After germinating, I've planted some seeds in a pot in my closet (Pot size is around 28 Inches X 7 Inches) And hanging above the soil are 2, 100 watt incandescent lights. I plan on changing to Fluorescents sometime tonight or tomorrow, I know Fluorescents are more than enough to use to get the plants started before they've grown above the soil, but was wondering is this was true in growing the plants in the early stages as well. If so, what's the best type of Fluorescent, (cool-white, warm white, or what?) and how many should I use for the given area i'm growing in. Also, about how high from the soil should they be hanging. ---------- One more question: I've noticed Incandescents put off far more heat than Fluorescents, as well as the fact that 100 watt light bulbs put off more lumens (1750) than a 24" Fluorescent (1050-1700), because of that, how are Fluorescents better?
1 pot=1 seed incandescents do not have a spectrum plants can use Flouro's are sufficient for early vegging. A mixture of warm and cool tubes, could be placed less than 1 inxh from the seedlings, but if you go with compacts, the distance needs to be increased to 4-6 inches. As soon as they break the surface, get a fan circulating enough air on them to make them slight "flutter". That will eliminate the problem so many beginners have, with seedlings stretching up and falling over.
It's a rectangle pot that has 4 square pots inside of it. So it isn't many jumbled in one. I've just gone ahead and gotten 2 duel flourescents.
After planting the germinated seeds, I've hung a duel 4 Foot Flourescent Above the soil, containing 1 Cool-White and 1 Warm-Light as close as possible, if what I am doing so far is correct, about how long should it take before it comes above the soil?
