We'll find out more about that Brazilian man after the lawsuits are over with and records go public. Much the same happened the 911 incident. A bunch of records were released this past week after the lawsuits were finished and the NY Times sued the city for them. It's a shame people have to wait that long to get information. There's a lot of frustrated 911 relatives and relatives of troops in Iraq that the U.S. media won't talk about. I'm still waiting for one of them to go crackers and go on a rampage while everyone is looking for an Arab. .
Terrorists managed to bomb the subway twice in Britain and the police shot an innocent guy. How does Tony Blair explain this? "Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe we would have gotten in right but we have about 20,000 troops and money in Iraq trying to keep us 'safe' ". .
They managed too do it on one occasion [several times] and failed the second time [ stating they were only doing a 'peacefull protest]. The guy was shot because he was being a idiot.
No, he wasn't being an idiot. He was on his way to work and the police passed up opportunities to stop and question him. .
Running like a moron from the police as he was asked too stop..They could have stopped him forgoing any opportunity to find out if he was 'upto no good'.
They would have known if he had a bomb or not when they stopped him. Nothing would have been lost, and the decision wouldn't have been made in a crowded railway station last second. What, am I the only one who's smart? Jeez. No one in this forum wouldn't have some sort of defensive reaction to a group of people in plain clothes running at them with guns, in spite of what anyone may say. People just need to forego this idealogical commitment to defend the politicians and police at all costs and start asking for information about what happened. It took four years for people in the U.S. to get some records released about what happened on 911. It's a disgrace. .
I love that inititial statement by the police and witnesses. "Oh, he looked like a cornered rabbit." Yeah, as if that proves he was guilty of something. A group of guys running at him with guns and he looked like a cornered rabbit. Brilliant deduction. .
Yes they would have known if he did or did not have a bomb.. as they watched dozens of people being covered in shrapnel... well probably not them but there colleauges might have done later on at there funerals. I would have had a response to the situation not a defensive one.. one of putting my hands up and stopping in my tracks when asked too. I am not 'defending' the polices action.. truely it was a choice of 'epic' proportions.. but one made in a very tense situation [ok i am]. What did those records tell us ?? go over too 'America attacks' i started a thread about it.
This operation is looking more bungled every day. There is an independent investigation is being conducted which is good and some information is coming out. ITV showed a pic of de Menezes body after the shooting. They cropped out his head and part of upper body. He was wearing jeans and what looked like a blue jacket. de Menezes wasn't chased until the very last moment when he was boarding the train. He wasn't being chased down the street or even across the station. He even made a call at the station to his boss. One of the undercover officers who was supposed to be relaying information about de Menezes identity was going the the bathroom at a time when he was needed. The officer who shot him has been relieved of his duty. Hopefully more info will come out as time goes on. You thought that it would have been less risky to stop him right as he was going on the train than earlier? .
I thought it was horrid the way ITV kept on about this. First off they decieded to completly take out of context the actual information given.. and kept going on about a 'catastrophic errors' .. Even after the ipcc said it would not comment till further along into the investigation ..ITV repeated the same notions all night and all this morning.. heck i bet when i go home they will be saying the same things again. The thing is people now have it in there minds that the police were guilty as sin.. months before any real investigation has transpired.. i realise we are all speculating , but my point or yours is hardly being broadcast and parroted by other media outlets too millions and millions of people. http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/08/16/police.shooting.ap/ Like the ITV 'revelation' are.. It was quite earie how much he looked like the person that actually did attempt to carry out a attack.. this is no excuse though i admit.
What is really bizarre is that so many people immediately called for an "independent" investigation. The investigation is not complete, nobody has seen it, and these revalations are coming from leaks FROM THE INVESTIGATION. I hope this doesn't turn into another farce where they investigate Blair a dozen times because they can't vote him out.
Let's not confuse police chief Blair with Tony Blair. Not saying anyone is doing that, but there are two people with the same name. You have to admit there were a lot of cocksured statements that came out of the police the day it happened. They got quiet the next day when they realized what they had done. I hope there really is a fair investigation and all the information gets released to the public. .
Great quote today from the de Menezes family advocate. They were in London protesting the police's actions, accusing the police of lying and trying to cover up their actions. They are also asking for Ian Blair's resignation. Quote: "I think what the family campaign has seen is a Laurel and Hardy police operation. There are three stages to this. There is a shoot to kill policy that no one knows where it came from, what the guidlines are and how it is implemented. There's the incompetence of the police on the day of their operatinal failures, and there's now thirdly the attepmted cover-up and mis-leading by Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police with government officials colluding with this."
That's an insult to Laurel and Hardy. Even they were more coordinated. How about the Keystone cops? .
What is so great about it ??. Of course relatives are going to spew out this kind of thing...justification/rationalisation etc nothing too great about this just a family trying to 'blame' something/somebody .
Calling an investigation a cover up when i hasn't been completed and nobody has even seen it is a cheap political game. The police are not supposed to be on the news debating rumours of what happened or didn't happen. They are supposed to keep quiet while the investigation runs its course. This is what happens when low lifes like Galloway get their slimy hands on something.
Speaking of Galloway, http://www.respectcoalition.org/?ite=850 The next person shot by police might be a relative of someone on this board or of Tony Blair. The attitude will likely be different in such a case. .
How divinely simple simple to label it as a biased blame. Nevermind that they speak truths, no matter how they were motivated. I don't expect the police to debate or anything, but there are questionable circumstances here, and I gotta say my faith in investigations into these matters are pretty non-existant. I wouldn't be surprised to see the investigation headed by people closely knit he the oes in question......we'll see. But I think it's great that people are actually sticking it to these guys instead of letting it get lost in the whole terrorism scare.
A little harsh from me.. i have too admit. What i meant was that with every tragedy, somebody has to be accountable and can shoulder the blame. This is understandable. It being a tragic conclusion to a tense situation and the police being quite right to do what they did [in the circumstance].. Would not make the family very happy i am sure. As the investigation has barely started [and it is not 'closely knit' it is fully independant] It is a little unfair and slightly wrong for family to churn out what the newspapers are spouting. What truths are they speaking.. 'headlines' thats all .. Yes they are 'questionable circumstances' trying to pre-empt a 'guilty verdict' at this early stage is helpful how ?... If you read what they are accusing the police of, from unhelpful goading from the media and there 'representatives' .. thats imho not allowing the independant investigation to have any time to be finished..
I never heard what happened with the investigation. There was supposed to be a report in Dec. 2005. If anyone heard anything, I'd be interested. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/08/19/listening_post/main788718.shtml "Far from wearing a suspiciously heavy coat, running away into the Stockwell Tube station when challenged by police or vaulting over the turnstiles, the leaked documents and photos show de Menezes was wearing a jean jacket, and CCTV footage shows him walking calmly into the station entrance, stopping to pick up a free newspaper, and using his pre-paid card to access the subway platform." .
