Hmmmm... that`s an interesting question. I grew up with the early stuff, but then I started rebelling against my dad and I told him that everything he liked, including the Beach Boys, was stupid. But I secretly got into them again in Uni and swore that the later stuff was best, because it`s really good, and better yet, it isn`t popular. I always resisted the early stuff until I remembered that `In My Room`, `I Get Around` and the beginning part of California Girls were both really good... so I bought the `Today/Summer Days` album. So yeah, nnow I think that for the most part the early stuff is better.
I like their mid 60s stuff..... 64-66. pet sounds is quite overrated if you ask me..... although their best hits are on that album. that is sloop john b and god only knows... the rest of the album kinda stinks if you ask me..... Ive listened to it a good number of times..... I just never thought it was that great...... but the critics love it.
I don't really like Sloop John B. 'Caroline No' and 'That's Not Me' I think are their best songs from that album, along with "Wouldn't It Be Nice"... the lyrics are so simple, yet so amazingly amazing and perfect.
