One after another, the scandals emerge revealing Wal-Mart's ruthless campaign against workers' rights. When Wal-Mart employees attempt to stand up for themselves and try to form a union, they face threats, propaganda, discrimination, intimidation, and even firings. Is this any way to treat employees who just want to negotiate for better wages, more affordable health care, and basic protections on the job? It's a struggle of epic proportions: 1.3 million employees versus Wal-Mart. College students, single parents, the elderly—barely making enough to cross the poverty line, competing against the world's largest employer and corporation—raking in $10,000,000,000 in profits last year. Clearly, Wal-Mart can afford to do the right thing and treat its workers with the respect they deserve. The question is, will it? It's time to demand Wal-Mart stop denying its employees a voice at work. Tell Wal-Mart enough is enough... http://www.care2.com/go/z/26435
Hmmmm....that wouldn't fly around this area since they actually pay better than many jobs, demand you take all your breaks and are generous with the breaks they give, and demand that you never work off the clock, and have health benefits that are also better than most around here....not going to get people to shell out money to a labor union to get what they already have around here. Plus the state of Virginia has a right to work law, so the whole state is rather fuckered on labor unions. When the labor unions can get their shit together in the airline industry I may have some faith in them again but I've seen too many take paycuts and benefit cuts supposedly in order to save what jobs they have. I know folks that are making the same or less than they did ten yrs ago that are working for United airlines and belong to the unions.
Wal Mart is bad for local economies and for the US as a whole in that they spend the majority of their $ overseas. I try to avoid shopping there as much as possible and support local businesses when I can!
Wal-Mart is an absolutely horrible company. They make nearly 10 billion dollars a year in profit, yet the government gives subsidies to a lot of their employees because they don't make enough money to afford basic things such as housing and health care insurance. Also, in an economics class, the teacher told us that 1 in 5 US dollars is spent at Wal-Mart, and 1 in 10 dollars in the world is spent at a Wal-Mart.. I find that appalling. They are too huge and just disgusting.. I hate Wal-Mart and I refuse to buy or use anything that comes from there, as well as even step foot in one of their gigantic stores. Blech.
Yep Dover Wal Mart is shit . My familly and I are doing a total boycott of what they sale because of the Joncquière Wal-Mart affair . The employees voted for the union to get in and after Wal-Mart announced that they would close the store because it did not made enough money ...
Hey come on man , let me tell you something , one day a big corporation did a 90 million charity donation but after they spent 110 million saying they gave money for good causes . I don't remember the name of the corporation though ...
Thanks for the remarks i'll edit my post .
Federaliste et quebecois? Je suis surpris. Typiquement les jeunes sont souverainistes. SVP excusez la manque d'accents....
wal mart, ahh yes the american way. i love walking into a walmart and seeing a bunch of white trash hicks from the trailer park with their beer-stained dale earnhardt shirts and 13 kids running around the store yelling loud ebonics.
