hey everyone, i really want to do one of those student exchange things, but i don't really know to much about doing it, i was wondering if anyone has ever done it before and if you have how it was and everthing. i don't really want to spend a lot of money on it, and i think i would only want to stay for half a year, and also where would you think the best place to go would be? i think that england or ireland would be nice to go, but i do take german and really enjoy it so maybe there. well anyway any information that anyone knows would be helpful, thanks.

Well, I've been to Texas as an exchange student, and it sucked, for the most part :p I made friends, and had fun, but: my host family treated me like shit, I spent too much money on food cause my host family didn't wanna pay for MY food, oh and I also had to pay for gas whenever I needed to be taken somewhere... I was also the slave in the house...

But that's just my experience... with my shitty organization.

Hi! Please be careful with student exchange programs. Most of the companies are really bad, they just want your $$ and after you're placed, they don't really care what happens to you...

The best agencies to consider are AFS www.afs.org and
EF www.effoundation.org ( I went to Finland via AFS and they were excellent).

They may be more expensive but well worth it. It can be very scary abroad with no support.

    Good luck!

Rotary's really good in most countries, and really inexpensive. You pay for your ticket there and they give you a small monthly stipend. www.rotary.org has information. i think they only do summers and whole years though, but you could talk to your local Rotary International director and see if they'd let you do a semester. (or you could sign up for a year and then just come home at semester if you want, no one's gonna stop you). i would just talk to kids who've done exchanges in the country you want before you go to find out how rotary operates there. for example, in spain they're really inactive and i barely heard from them, but ppl i talked to from other countries had group trips and meetings all the time and loved it. i still loved my exchange; i just didnt' meet as many international students. overall, a highly recommendable experience!

I want to be an exchange student as well, but if you live in a crapy country like Macedonia that is practicly impossible!
