Well given a form would you sign it ?. Antibiotics, anaesthetics, vaccines, insulin for diabetes, open heart surgery, kidney dialysis and transplants, treatments for asthma, leukaemia and high blood pressure... these are just some of the major medical advances that have depended on the use of animals in medical research and testing. The medical benefits of animal research are a good starting point for the public debate about the use of animals in research and testing. RDS is the UK organisation which represents doctors and scientists in this debate. The information in RDS Online is based on very thorough research and understanding of the facts, historical and scientific. In this debate there are many single issue pressure groups seeking to abolish animal research completely and immediately. But it would be extremely difficult to develop new medical treatments and cures without the use of animals. So animal research must continue if we are to solve serious medical problems like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, and malaria. Not all medical research needs to use live animals - useful results are also obtained by using computers, studying cells and tissues, and some studies that are done on patients and human populations. RDS Online puts the research processes in context, to explain when animals need to be used. http://www.rds-online.org.uk/pages/home.asp?i_ToolbarID=8&i_PageID=94
how come so many doctors say animal testing is a waste of time and is slowing down medical progression then? jerry valask is one of them, hes a trauma surgon from the usa and used to be a vivisectionist, he says its all a big money spinner, and that no cures have ever been found from using animals.
http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113678&page=1&pp=10 Personal opinions are fine.. does it make them factual ? not neccesarly. I am just asking a question about not involving yourself in medicine that has derived from animal research.. I think the conclusion is you would have to resort opting out the 'system'...or as Dok' thinks taking advantage of the past but not the continuation or 'torture' for your own gain.. IMHO animal research is a proven technical advantage and the 'benefits' endless.... http://www.amprogress.org/Issues/IssuesList.cfm?c=10 http://www.amprogress.org/Issues/IssuesList.cfm?c=12 http://www.fbresearch.org/animal-activism/hype-hypocrisy.htm http://www.aalas.org/association/downloads/flyers_pdfs/UseOfAnimalsFlyer.pdf
How much animal testing is really valid? I mean absolutely crucial info for a real benefit to humans?
its hardly what nature intended is it, i cant see why it would get us very far. we created the illnesses in the first place with mankinds stupidity n greed, i cant see how the same stupidity n greeds gonna solve it
Check out the links.. not to be pompous about it or arrogant etc.. but do..its interesting. How did 'we' 'create' polio, cancer; heart problems and the other myriad of afflictions that have been with us for tens of thousands of years ?. We would be still dying before our 40th birthdays, if it was no [in part] for this type of research. If you want to 'get back to nature' the point of this thread is to say if you are willing to 'relinquish your right to recieve care aided by animal research/testing'. If your saying it is not that beneficial.. opt out. Nobody has been willing to say they would [yet].
it would be stupid to say you would opt out, cus thats the only option there is, it dosnt mean u agree with it, but if your dyin ur gonna take what help there is. u cant escape from animal testing, everything at sometime has been tested on animals, even animal rights leaflets you give out, the chemicals in that have been tested on animals once upon a time. i dont see what other option you have apart from except the treatment thats offered as there isnt really a alternative because of the trend of vivisection. as for cancer etc, if its not man made, why are cancer rates rising? heart disease was originally caused by the sufferer eating meat and dairy to excess. also, they havnt cured cancer have they, or aids. and there aint a anti heart attack pill. and im not been a hypocrit, well i hope im not. my dad died of lung cancer, again a man made illness from the shit loads of chemicals your inhaling, but i still disagree 100% with vivisection. if they could proclaim theyve cured cancer, or aids, or even a bloody common cold they might have a argument, although morally bankrupt, but they cant.
I wouldn't sign a form on the basis of animal testing alone. I agree that we have caused most ilness and diseases ourselves. It's a complex argument but it basically boils down to our desire to live longer and overpopulate whilst consuming and polluting everything in our path. What is the human obsession with living longer REGARDLESS of the cost? Why can't we accept that we die, understand that and make sure that our lives have built us the foundation for a better death? I wan't to sign a form that says "when my time is up, let me go knowing I have lived a life beneficial to and of no harm to others. Leave me in peace as I die, surrounded by loved ones. Leave me to rest when I'm dead to allow my soul it's chance to leave undisturbed". Fat chance with todays medical ideology. We don't even get the chance to die how we would want to. For f*cks sake, it's even left to the courts to decide in some cases. Anyway, sorry, going off topic.
No problem about 'going of topic' [as i don't think you were] as its part of the reasons we make up our minds about things. What about the start of life.. the amout of babies helped into the world.. not everybody is obssed with living/consuming etc as a few billion would just like to live old enough to have a life and family.. I do think people should be allowed to die with dignity You could always just let yourself die.. your talking about people living longer and consuming more.. don't you think you are just ass guilty for self preservation?. Personally i know i am. I think the cancer rates have gone up because we have grown into a more aged society.. because of better health care , created out of research and animal testing. They can can recognise cancers better now.. Not sure 'cancer' is cured , but i do think many have been lowered as a potential cause of death. Early detection and all that. There are 'cures' for many of the things you mention.. like Beta blockers, heart by-pass surgery etc etc . None will be available if no research is done.. Catch 22 i suppose.
