Who do you think is seriously the most over rated musican ever? I personally think the most over rated guitarist is... o god someone's going to shoot me... Jimi Hendrix. Don't get me wrong man, his music is great. But he's just not as great as everyone makes him out. I don't know, that's just me. But tell me what you think. And I'm sorry about the Jimi thing... please don't yell at me.

I think when you look at a band or musician who you consider over rated. It is all the hype that surounds them. The dead and Jimi get inflated because well the were the originators no body did what they did before them and if so they didn't get it out there. Kinda like the model T versus the corvette the T was the original but the vette wips

Isn't all popular music overrated? It's all hyped up and loved by everyone, but at the end of the day its only rock n roll.

I have to disagree here but I'm not yelling at you :) I can understand people don't like his music but saying that he's overrated? I can only quote Pete Townshend here and I think he knows what he's talking about:

"Seeing Jimi Hendrix for the first time was a Hell of a lot of pain. That's what I felt. I still feel it. I think that's about it really. I hadn't touched psychedelic drugs for a year when I saw him at some concert in Washington or somewhere in the States, and he was pulling those old psychedelic stunts again. And you have to see him to know what I'm talking about. He did things which were magical. I don't think he knew he was doing them or that he could do them, but he'd do things with his body that were very, very beautiful to look at, yet accompanied by these incredibly wild noises. It was some kind of strange alchemy."

Jim Morrison and Green Day are probably the two most overrated wastes of life ever.

Jimi Hendrix, eh... not a surprise, coming this forum.

The guy said that his music was great, so he does like his music :)

And I kinda agree. He was amazing, but a lot of people worship him to the extent that they believe him th eonly person ever worthy of picking up a guitar.

Actually, from what I've noticed, the people who "worship" him dont know a damn thing about him anything other than that he recorded Are You Experienced? and "All Along the Watchtower," and that he did a lot of drugs.

People seem to forget that he played with a band.

^Yeah... well his band was called The Jimi Hendrix Experience... it's kinda misleading to the fact that it wasn't all about him :)

Or (if I'm correct) The Band of Gypsies also.

thats right.. The Band of Gypsies weren't as tight as The Experience, and did a lot more free jamming than them. personally, i like the latter band more. :sunglasse

Nirvana- The radio stations have never stopped overplaying "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It wasn't that good of a song 11 years ago! And my dad has Nevermind, which, to be honest, was a very bad album as a whole.

Modest Mouse- Wannabe art music for wannabe artists.

U2 haven't put out anything good since 1991... the stuff they're playing now is a little better than the crap they released throughout the 90s, but they still have no business to be making music together.. they could've been one of the greatest bands in the world, but they decided to stay together even after they lost sight of what they set out to do (that was to change the world with rock 'n' roll).

happens all the time, mostly. :p
