    Then there's three possibilities:

    1) You don't like your family very much - or prefer Orsino's company to theirs. In which case I wonder about you.

    2) You are from a callous, moronic generation raised on Viva La Bam and Tom Green to the point where looting, drowning and misery is "funny"

    or

    3) You have no clue what's appropriate or not cause birds of a feather flock together.

I seen the fire department or whomever chopping holes in roofs to free people in thier attics...water was above the doors and windows with just roof showing....I cant imagine a more helpless situation.

You either misunderstood and took it the wrong way or are twisting my words on purpose... I was talking about the planning departments and city government, not the citizens themselves. Other than that, drop it man, nobody can do anything about it at this point.

RE: Didn't meant to offend, was a simple opinion...

What you said came across as extremely insensitive, uninformed and callous.

It isn't only New Orleans that's having this trouble. That hurricane has smashed multiple states and ruined and killed in all sorts of places. So suggesting it's poor planning is ridiculous, especially since the city was founded long before the wetlands eroded, and there were MANY including my friends who were activists for getting em back which COULD have saved the city.

So either the entire South East of the United States is stupid - or it's just a case of it's one of those things that happened.

I guess the Californians deserve it when the big one hits San Fran and kills dozens, right? Or those stupid Bostonians when the ice storms come in and kill dozens and do traumatic damage. Or those stupid people in the mid-South in Tornado country.

    Right?

That's maybe not what you meant but it's what you said.

This is horrible, This may be disagreeable, but i'm wondering as to why only one part of the highway was open for evacuation. It seems t ome a smart idea to have opened the left side as well for a faster evacuation....And to think, it was planned on being worse

maybe familys would panic and try to get back into the city to save freinds or family and would casue traffic accidents on the left side.

No, that's how you interpreted it. If you have nothing better to do than twist my words, go right ahead. It's not going to phase me, I have other things to worry about.

I stand by my original statement, which is the people who got hurt, maimed, killed, crippled, looted, carjacked, shot, ruined, etc. in this hurricane did not "deserve" it.

That's what "that's what you get for..." means - it's snarky armchair quarterbacking.

The city planners had no clue when they founded the city hundreds of years ago what was going on. And even then there were acres of wetlands between the city and the weather system. Once a hurricane comes inland it loses velocity real fast. Those acres disappeared in the last few decades.

Most people in New Orleans were born there, raised there and won't leave there. That's a human trait. Kalahari Bushmen won't leave the most inhospitable places they grew up in, neither will the Amazonian Indians. Most people feel a kinship with where they are. The last hurricane of any real import was decades ago and most have forgotten it.

If you've never had a place you call home hit by a tragedy, you have no clue how personally you can take an offhand, disrespectful comment.

I've seen my childhood home hit by a terrorist bomb that LEVELLED the downtown.

I've seen the place in which I renewed my vows, a place I visit at least once a year, flooded to the point where there are dozens of corpses in the water.

That is my final word. However you meant it, it was an assholish thing to say.
Rather than argue with me, retract it or at least learn from the experience.

So which "they" is the "they" that deserves what "they" get.

My psychic powers are somewhat diminished, George.

Are you suggesting that the city planners (as you're now saying) are paying for their mistakes? Dude, they've been DEAD hundreds of years.

How am I twisting your words?

Here's how I read your statement, and it's a reasonable interpretation:

"I hate to say it, but I guess it's what the looted, sick, dead and dying, poor and crippled deserve for putting a city at the bottom of a pit surrounded by bodies of water."

Nobody deserves what happened in New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile, and any of a number of counties in at least three states in the South East.

Well, that's yours to deal with. I can't help a person getting offended by something so small as my own opinion when I didn't even mean it in that way nor did I mean it in a hateful way. Nature can't help it, neither can the people, once it's already been done. Why would I say something like that if I have no motive? I don't have any hatred to people in the south or anything against anyone there, hell, I was raised between VA and NC and live in currently Southeast Virginia. I've been stuck in shelters, myself, and have been through more hurricanes than I can begin to count. One of my cousins can't get insulin and my great aunt hasn't been seen since the night of the hurricane... I have other things to worry about.

Now that, Dan67, is a TROLL.

You can learn from this guy, Orsino.

Rather than being passive aggressive about it, say outright that people deserve to be massacred.

I'm not going to repeat myself, here.

as saying "that's what you get for..."? I can't help a person getting offended by me calling them an asshole, either (that was sarcasm) - but apparently I'm supposed to take that back, George.

    you all have no idea..

    just watching the news is..mindblowing

looking at all these places that you've been to, that have been a normal part of your life for so long (biloxi..i usually go there at least once a year....gulfport, and apparantly new orleans) just..up to the roof in WATER, and torn to shreads by the winds is just...amazing...

The fucking interstates aren't even open in some places, there's this bridge that looks like dominoes, you can't get into misissippi, and the city of new orleans (and surrounding cities) are virtually CLOSED.

I can't tear myself away from the news..
