Should margarine factories be closed down and the sale of margarine and other hydronated fats be made completly illegal?
You can get non-hydrogenated margarine......that's what I buy. But I do think that hydrogenated fats should be banned. Too many Fatty's who don't care what they shove into their faces.....

If it is not hydronated, how is it solidified? You do know that when margarine is made, it is heated up to a very high temperature and goes BLACK. Polyunsaturated oils completly lose their goodness by being treated as such. During the catalysing process there are residues in the marg of nickel and aluminium oxides. To make butter spreadable at during Winter I dice up a 500g block of butter and soften it in the microwave with 120ml of good olive oil. Then whisk together. In summer I just keep it straight but out of the fridge in a resealable container. It is only on the stinking hot days that it is necessary to refridgerate. Then it does not take long to soften up once removed from the fridge.
dont make anything illegal... thats just stupid people should be allowed to make a logical descision based on the provided information. sure its bad... but i dont eat butter or margarine (except in cakes) so i wouldnt REALLY care if marg got the chop
i think that the whole point of margerine was to make something from a very rough a ready food stuff and make some money out of it. originally i think that it was alot cheaper than butter. yeah the whole catalyst thing is to break the long chains of oils. they make transformer oils and petrol in sort of the same way. anyway the problem is that in the process of breaking these chains you get all sorts of interesting shapes made from the oil chains in margerine production whose effect on human health is not really known. thats as much as i know. margerine is really just an old trick of the chemical industry of using rubbish to create "gold" kind of like the exhaust fumes of fertiliser factories being used to "fluoridate " the water supply - of course even the most meagre of research shows this stuff to be poison. as for banning margerine? its never going to happen - the people who make it give too much money to the government.
http://www.canolaharvest.com/canada/products/CH_margarine/nonhydro_1lb.html I don't know how it is solidified. It isn't hard like butter, it is very soft. Maybe it just isn't available to you, but I can get it easily in Canada. I never buy butter, it is too expensive.
fair enough with those articles Bilby and I have actually heard this before some place however isn't the use of the oils they are talking about mainly concerning because of all the deep frying and that that people do? I mean how much margarine and peanut butter do people eat??
I buy Nuttelex. It's something like, 95% unhydrogenated. So what about the other 5%? I want to eat cakes with "butter" and have "butter" on my toast, too. Milk makes me sick, far sicker than the little bit of hydrogenated oils in the small amounts of marg I eat.
Uuuurrrgggghhh, that white stuff made yellow. It's complete crap, while a lot of butter isn't good for you either, at least it isn't manufactured. You'd be sick if you read how they make it.
I've read how they made it, and I eat it on occassion, and it doesn't make me sick. I'm allergic to milk proteins. Milk makes me sick. I've read about how milk is made, too. Heaps of stuff we eat is not good for us. As long as we don't overdose on marg and the like, it's ok.
For many years I thought I was lactose intollerant.About five years ago some lactose free UHT milk became available.I thought great I can go back to making all those desserts that I have missed out on for years.I never bought a great deal of it just now and then.About months ago the full cream lactose free milk always seemed to be selling out but there was always plenty of low fat lactose reduced. One day I wanted some milk but there was only the low fat version of the lactose free milk so I bought it.I found even using a very small amount of it would give me bad haemmorrhoids such as one serve of mashed potato.Even adding cream to it , I would still get the problem. The doctor gave me referral to see a surgeon. After meditating on the matter I dumped the low fat milk that did not like all that much anyway and thought what if I add extra butter to everything I eat.? Guess what, this supposidly unhealthy diet made me better. Is not a simple diet change preferable to invasive surgery? I often read dietry advice recommending minimising saturated fat in your diet. Some examples.I once asked the National Heart Foundation (of Australia) for their scientific references in relation to saturated fat. They replied that they had no references but suggest I do an online scan of the Australian Medical Journal and the British Medical Journal.Surprise, surprise, nothing! I have done some more research and found there is no controversy over trans fats being unhealthy.Naturally Encarta only makes a passing mention to trans fats and fails to mention the idea of saturated fats being unhealthy is in any way controversial. Encarta published press releases. This exemplifies why Wikipedia is far better. According to Wikipedia, margarine and vegetable oil manufacturers actually told the public that trans fats were good for you! Other places aI have seen recommending reducing saturated fat conmsumption are Dieticians Association of Australia and the National Health and Medical Research Council. Also a dieticians advertisment advice column .She could not tell me either but said her views were consistant with the views of the aforementioned organisations, none of whom can provide any scientific references. The only reseach I have come up with against saturated fat is some rather dubious research done in the 1950's that was paid for by some margarine manufacturers where some hydronated coconut oil was fed to animals and they became ill.The supposed to show that saturated fat is bad for you because coconut oil is 93% saturated. All this research showed is that hydronated oil is bad for you. Anyway go ahead and enjoy all those foods high in saturated fat such as double cream, butter marbled beef etc unless you are a vegan , but that is your choice but you can still get into the coconut oil and palm oil that are both very high in saturated fat.
