Jeeze, I thought Nova Scotia had it bad when Hurricane Juan hit in 2003....

It looks bad on the news but hopefully it's not as worse as it seems. I hope everyone's OK though!

oh its a whole lot worse then it seems....the complete devastation isnt accounted for...it will take getting all that water to lower in order to see how many more are dead in their attics...

So glad to hear that the folks posting from the Gulf Coast have made it through okay!

We'd like to pass on a suggestion posted by a Rainbow hippie on another site; for those in areas surrounding Katrina's path. PLEASE try to organize free kitchens in your area for those who will be coming through as they escape the devastation. (note: the actual request was to set up an emergency Rainbow Gathering in Mississippi-see more info in the Rainbow HipForum)

Also a question: we've heard that individuals coming to help are being turned away unless they are affiliated with a non-profit organization. Is this true?

I hope you all pull together and spread what real love is all about Giving and looking after your fellow man. It's going to have a hell of a roll on effect though!! Around the world with the price of that owfull black stuff going throught the roof "Oil". Its time to show what we brits call the good old dunkirk spirit to kick in in Americe and pull together and help with the heart and not the doller. You will get their, "We Hope". Best Wishes to the people who survived the disaster, I might live somewhere else but my heart is with you all at this moment.

I've been trying to get a feel for how many square miles are effected by Katrina's wrath. People are angry at the slow response but I'm thinking this thing is huge. Katrina it's self was more than twice the size of Florida. And she was in motion. How many towns are devastated? I just want to be able to be fair in my assesment of how America is handleing this mess. I get really angry watching the people asking for help that is not forthcoming but then i wonder..

I just watched an interview of a Dr. that was a volunteer in the dome. He is pulling out because he is too afraid for his life. They can't even police the superdome ffs! There has been 3 murders and 7 rapes in there. So much violence and looting going on. Its getting to be total anarchy there.

Well, our national guard that usually helps in times like these, natural disasters, civil unrest....but they have pretty much all been sent away to Iraq...It is huge, but It didn't seem like anyone really had their shit together on the rescue operations in alotta ways. There wasn't any MRE's (meals ready to eat) or water ready to have available or to drop to people that are stuck in their homes, out on their roofs till they can reach them and get them out. Why did it take so many days for "You Know Who" to get off his ass and get more of this ball rolling. He sure didn't waste any time when it was terrorists on 9/11. Why in sam hell did it take that *expeleteive deleted...a long string of em* to get offa his presidential ass and get a basic like water out to these people. What was it before he really said or did a damn thing...5 days? Sheesh! We shoulda told him it was "terrorists that did it" I bet he woulda moved that ass then and be doing some great "God and Country" rally speech.

    *gets down offa her soapbox*
This rant was brought to you by lack of sleep and idiocy in the White House.

I have to stop watching Fox News live feeds and such. The conditions in the Superdome are insane. There hasnt been any food or water most of the time in there and the newscaster is questioning if there ever was food and water for the people in the dome.(They just responded to that, there has been some kind of water/meal twice daily, but not enough water according to a few people there)
Why werent supplies readied to get in there? Why didn't they set up some kind of small aid stations/outposts to help these people? Why weren't the helicopters dropping supplies to people they didn't/couldn't pick up? This has been a disorganized mess.

I am glad that you are alive.
But I am very worried about the people left behind.
Just saw the interview with the Mayor of N.O.
He is 100% right, at the moment they are been left down and agree with him that Bush, has to pay soon than later.
Everything Bush is doing is wrong.
Long live & good luck to the people of New Orleans!

Yeah i am really feeling for those in New Orleans. That city is the worst place to have something like this happen. It is a dangerous city any day of the week, lots of crime and such. There are parts of New Orleans that people wont even go to because of the lack of law there. Now it seems the whole city has become that.

Its like two different worlds. The coast of MIssissippi was devestated. Towns all over are gone, and there is nothing left. They arent rioting and killing and shooting at police. Though there are a couple of horror stories from my area, for the most part, people are helping each other.

I feel guilty for leaving, because i have always prepared to survive in those situations, but my family is first in the world, and i saw my children hot and sick from the heat, and the first tool of my survival pack was to get them to safety here.

SO no guilt for that, because i took my world with me, and all i can do for those back home is to hope for the best in this time of need. I know that the ones with the ability and opportunity would do just the same as I did.

[IMG]Yeah I listened to the mayor of N,O as well "and like you said" he is absolutly right. My heart goes out to all those people in NEW ORLEANS. I know I live in Scotland UK, But My heart and thoughts are with the poor people of America along with the rest of the world. One more point "KICK BUSH" out of power and get the mayor on N,O in to office.
