Without any website or documented research on what the symptoms are for birth control, As a user, can you please discribe to me the most common symptoms you had from taking birth contorl. My girlfriend is in favore, but is in fear of wieght gain and/or other symptoms she read. Im asking you! Thanks for the help.
You would probably do better at asking this in the womens issues forum... With birth control, some will gain weight and some dont, everyone is different and have different reactions.. I never gained weight from my bc...until I was put on a strong bc but only gained about 5 pounds... There really arent any symptons, is she just starting them? Cause when I first started taking pc I felt nauseas and had spotting, but that was it..
see, this is why you should have posted it in the womens issues.. cause I guess people get aroused by reading something about birth control...
Most common symptoms I've had were emotional. On the first pill they put me on, ortho tricyclen, I was psycho-bitch 29 days a month -- like screaming at my bf one minute, curled up in a ball crying the next, screaming again the next, then completely numb the next, but in a completely unpredictable pattern. The next pill they put me on, ortho novum lo, a monophasic pill, I was incredibly insatiably horny for three weeks a month, then spent one whole week a month curled up in a ball crying. The next pill didn't make me as horny but only made me cry for like 4 days a month. Now, I've finally found a pill that works. It doesn't do much to help my cramps, but it also doesn't make me an emotional wreck. It does, however, seem to have slightly lowered my sex drive...
some pills will affect a girl one way, and another girl completely different. I've never gained weight from the pill, but ortho tri cyclen made me get a yeast infection nearly every month - so not fun. I just started on alesse and it's working good so far, but I haven't been through a full month of pills yet. I've heard good things about yasmin too (ok, the only different thing I've heard a bout yasmin is that it makes some chicks' breasts get bigger)
my girlfriend was put on the ortho tricyclen (or something) pill, and she got growing pain feelings in her legs, more emotionally imbalanced, gained about 15 pounds, and her hair straightened (this i found a little weird). on the up side, she's not pregnant after dozens of times of having sex and her skin cleared up. the only thing that makes it questionable about whether or not the pill is worth it for her (besides the weight gain) is that it lowers her sex drive, so its kind of a catch 22: she used to want to screw like bunnies but could get pregnant, and now she's on the pill but doesn't want to have sex anymore. it kinda sucks, but for her its the best contraceptive she could get on, so its not so bad. talk to your g/f and doctor about the shot too.
the shot can be really awful for some women, I wouldn't recommend it. It definitely has weight gain - that was my only symptom while I was on it (plus no periods) but it got bad enough that i stopped using the shot. i just wouldn't go on it, it reacts too badly for too many women BluE ShoE, has your gf considered trying a different brand of pill to help with the lowered sexual drive, the pains, emotional issues and weight gain? Each pill has a slightly different balance of chemicals/hormones as far as I know - some are really good for a woman and some react badly for her. Not as extreme as the shot, but sometimes a gal has to try a couple different pills to find the one that works best for her.
Why? That wouldn't help you. Every woman is different. My suggestion is that she go to her doc and discuss what option would be best for her. If she gets really bad emotional pms now, they may decide a monophasic pill (same dose of hormones for the 3 active weeks, as opposed to a triphasic pill in which the dose changes every week). If she has bad cramps now, they may decide something else would work better. I'm not a doc so I don't know. Once she has been on the pill for a couple of months, if she is having any unpleasant side effects, she should simply go back to the doc to get on a diff pill (until she knows one works, buy them one pack at a time, don't buy a 3 month supply all at once for the first six months or so). I highly advise AGAINST the shot. Some women do fine on it. I have two friends who love being on it, not having to think about it and not having periods. BUT, until you know that you are not highly sensitive to artificial hormones, it's a huge gamble. I've heard of too many women who were an emotional wreck for the full 3 months it takes for the shot to get out of her system. By comparison, if you try the pill and it messes with your emotions, you can stop taking it and get it out of your system relatively quickly. Once she has tried the pill, if it doesn't cause any problems for her, she might want to talk to her doc about the shot, since it is a lot more convenient, but definitely try the pill first.
ive talked to her about it, but she says she doesn't think planned parenthood offers any other pill than the one she's on, and she's on a very limited budget.
Chronic fatigue syndrome, bitchyness, bled for 6 weeks straight on the shot.... etc etc etc. I'm soooo not a fan of hormones.
still, no harm in her asking hey? I was put on tricyclen my first time on the pill, it was fine except for getting a yeast infection nearly every month. Yeah, not so cool. Maybe they've got the low version of tri cyclen or something? It's good to check before considering something that fucks you up good like the shot... most girls don't do great on it
another thing about the shot is that it lowers bone density i believe (i'll have to look up what exactly it does) but my doctor told me she wouldn't let me take it for longer than like a year i think because of the side effects, so i took yasmin. i had been on the shot before and didn't have a period for over a year even after i got off of it.. which was really nice, but also made things very unpredictable when i was having sex. umm i took a low hormone pill my first time and it made me spot a lot, then i tried the shot which i liked, and then i tried yasmin which i hated because yeah.. it made my boobs a little bigger, but it also left me with terrible cramps that i still get on the first day of my period and i used to never get them before. anyway, now i don't take anything, i'm just careful and well i'm with somebody i love and want to marry so if we do get me preggers it's not the end of the world. i would definitely listen to the other ladies and try some different ones out. tell your doc what kinds of pms symptoms are already present and that would help out too.
