my doctor just gave me some celexa (an antidepressant) and i'm wondering if i should refrain from smoking pot while being on this medication. does this mean i have to quit smoking?
oh fuck that doctor. just smoke yourself stupid man. most prescription drugs dont react with marijuana like they do with cigarettes and other drugs
I took paxil and smoked weed together and it made me crazy. I went off the paxil. Do some internet research.
yea I havent done research, but I took a bunch of my friends effexors and smoked a couple bowls with it, just got pretty fucked up nothing too bad, except for not being able to walk
Most anti depressant or anti anxiety meds are maoi inhibiters. Thus, they block the re-uptake of seritonin. Marijuana makes you feel relaxed and allows more seritonin to be released. You get an over abundance of seritonin and you freak out (some people, sometimes) in addition your meds don't work properly because your seritonin levels are even further imbalanced. Ones like welbutrin are a bit more stable. I went of off my anti anxiety drugs and am a bit anal but at least I no longer have the crazy pot/paxil spells. If you really need meds be honest with your doctor that you smoke marijuana and he/she can reccomend a better drug with fewer side effecs. Those drug also take away your sex drive just to let you know.
and if you are scared that the doctor might tell your parents that you smoke weed, i dont think they can legally do that
most r ssri & tricyclics not MAOI & marijuana works on dopamine & anandamide not serotnin. It is also well know that these meds can drive people plenty crazy without pot on antidepressants u may find u smoke a lot more to help with the horrid side effects & 2 help the pills work coz ther not very good - better off taking more pot than some of that poison
