...and needed to support yourself financially. What is the longest you've gone without having a job? I've been unemployed for the past four months and it absolutely drives me nuts at times. Thankfully I am collecting, but for the life of me I haven't come across a job that pays nearly as well as the one I lost - so Bush and his 300,000 McDonald's positions created each month can go screw himself.

Sorry to hear about your troubles dhs. I have been in your "shoes" in the past and I was only able to last 5 months on unemployment until I had to change careers. It is hard to get by with what unemployment gives you. Plus Bush has not extended unemployment for the year yet. Looks like he will not either. Plus with the unemployment rates that came out today were really bad! Good Luck Brother!

the 'admin' can say what they want about unemployment, but they will NEVER admit that there is now a big problem with UNDEREMPLOYMENT

I know many people who are working for half or a third, or less, than what they were making at one time.

I work for a contractor, and for two months this year, he didn't have any work for me. I'm contractually bound, so I really couldn't go anywhere else, but I did collect. Tough to make it on that.

    Good luck with your search

I have never been unemployed for that long, but I have certainly been underemployed. Right now I am self employed and it's very slow. Luckily I make enough per hour that even 10 a week is enough to survive on, but it makes me very paranoid and without a set schedule I tend to go out every night and get into a non-working mode.

Our economy is in shambles in my opinion. manufacturing jobs left and technolgy industries have imploded and now there are no indistries that are really booming.

We are all screwed, lets drink :)

It is completely true that underemployment is a big problem this country is facing. I hate living off the system by collecting, but at the same time because I had a job that paid very well I am compensated pretty well - much better than I would be if I accepted a position of underemployment. So, 3 months til that well runs dry, just gotta keep looking. Actually, I'm not looking to hard as I'm taking this break to go to school and get a Real Estate license here in Florida, but it still angers me to hear Bush talk about how 'strong' he feels the economy is.

Im often out of work because I work alot of seasonal jobs. I have to save every penny and be very resourceful. I work part time and go to school. I am in the medical field so there are usually jobs but no where as many as people say. Im currently moving so I can finish school but I am having trouble finding a job that would be an advancement in my career. Positions that I have found would be a step back. It really bites that someone who is there to help others and take care of you in a possible life threatening position can't even pay her cheap rent. The job market is very tight. The goverment would have us all working as robots in places like McDonalds, Walmart, and the local mall. - Just my opinion ..
