Went pretty well, if I do say so myself. Opened with "Friends" (Led Zeppelin) and everything went really well from there. 'twas outdoors, and the sound system was extremely good. At one point, there was around 50 people there (some barbecue thang).. I played for a little over 4 hours, with 11 smoke breaks.. man, those unfiltered cigarettes started to kick my ass near the end, luckily I didn't have to play any longer than I did. I was really surprised that I had enough songs to play... but overall, I had fun, and thats all that matters. oh, and that I made $20 bucks for doing what I love. :H what was your first gig like?
ahaha, a few people asked me if i had been transported here in a time machine from the 60s... yep, thats what I did.
Congrats. What a rush huh? Happy birthday btw. My first gig was a solo act. I was pretty scared until I got on stage and realised with the spotlight shining in my face I couldn't see anybody so I just played to the light.
oh yeah. i have never felt anything like that. i wasnt nervous at all, its not like i dont give it all ive got when im just playing down in my room.. so i just played, didnt really do anything different than i usually do .. well except i had to sing louder. thanks.
that sound awesome. What istrument do you play? Ive always wanted to perform with a group in front of people. Anyways, best of luck to your musical future.
I remember mine being quite humbling with FAR too many people there...but I was playing with a band at least to hide some of the shame. Happy birthday, now go get arrested EDIT: actually my first gig would have been the 11th grade talent show, with WAY too many people there, like 700..our drummer thought one song was over so he got up and walked off stage, we were kind of at a loss about what to do about that
it was only me, and all i had was my guitar. not that that wasnt enough or anyhting. that might actually happen sooner than later.
my first gig with my band was hillarious. the other two guys in the group were so stoned and i think i sung the first song. (which isnt a good thing.) the guitar player would stop every few minutes to retune his guitar coz he was thinking it was out of tune, and the drummer would stop every now and then coz he had "really bad desserties". there were over 100 people there though. i think someone was throwing ice cubes at me but i cant remember. it was crap.
congrats chuck, on your birthday and your succesful gig i remember my first one, it was at a smokey mountain pizza out in the patio, i mainly did improve through the whole thing, trying to match the music with the environment of the eaters. It lasted 3 hours. Over all they must of liked it, i earned 25$ from tips, 25$ for playing, and a free pizza. I did it twice there, the second time there wasnt a single person there, but they still payed me for my time.
cheers, mate! always a good feeling to play for people. Getting out in public is rewarding in sooo many ways. I am especially glad to hear you did Friends, it was in my first gig as well. Its always a winner!
me and my old band played for oh say 50 people at this party and we played for hmm 3 or 3 hours...we got payed from the dude who had the party like 60 bucks minus 25 for renting a PA system but then alot of people gave us tips so we sorta earned it back...i remember feeling really kick ass that night.
oh yeah, i played my school's talent show for about 800-900 kids and teachers...it was really frightening at first then i started played and calmed down nd had a fucking blast...i was hot as hell under these huge stage lights though
My first gig was in a club with the first band I was in.... I only had to play guitar in that one.... I didn't know the material too well so I was too nervous to really enjoy it. Well done Chuck man, 4hours is a long time to be playing
Yeah, the guy who got me this last one apparently really likes me and wants me to play for him again, just gotta schedule around school and the jam sessions I've already made plans for with a bunch of people I've met... I'd rather jam than gig, I think. :sunglasse
my first proper gig of playing a whole song, while singing, where the sound system worked, in front of about 200 people of all ages, was when i played a song i wrote in a chapel service at my school i dunno what was better, playing and feeling the rush, while people watched, not sure whether theyre really liking it, but not caring caus i liked it myself or when i finnished the song and everyone aplauded and told me how awesome it was or asked me who really wrote the song
