What's this I heard about Bush warning the Mayor to evacuate 5 days before the storm? And finally personally calling the Mayor the day before and threatening to not give federal aid to get it evacuated?

Before residents had ever heard the words "Hurricane Katrina," the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE ran a story warning residents: If you stay behind during a big storm, you'll be on your own!

Editors at TIMES-PICAYUNE on Monday called for every official at the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be fired. In an open letter to President Bush, the paper said: "Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That's to the government's shame."

But the TIMES-PICAYUNE published a story on July 24, 2005 stating: City, state and federal emergency officials are preparing to give a historically blunt message: "In the event of a major hurricane, you're on your own."

Staff writer Bruce Nolan reported some 7 weeks before Katrina: "In scripted appearances being recorded now, officials such as Mayor Ray Nagin, local Red Cross Executive Director Kay Wilkins and City Council President Oliver Thomas drive home the word that the city does not have the resources to move out of harm's way an estimated 134,000 people without transportation."

"In the video, made by the anti-poverty agency Total Community Action, they urge those people to make arrangements now by finding their own ways to leave the city in the event of an evacuation.

"You're responsible for your safety, and you should be responsible for the person next to you," Wilkins said in an interview. "If you have some room to get that person out of town, the Red Cross will have a space for that person outside the area. We can help you."

uhh okay, yet the new orleans police department lost over 50 percent of their work force, because they were too much of pussies to handle what they saw on the streets, or what they had to deal with, with the looting and all.....

you guys say that we follow the media too much, yet you do the same, even worse.... yeah, they had a few days to leave new orleans, and so did our government in preparation for getting people evacuated, and the clean up efforts. some people in new orleans failed to get out, which could be or could not be their fault, yet it was the local, state and fed governments fault for flubbing up the entire thing. and I saw a president taking vacation while the place was getting hit by a hurricane..... yup.

 

that was the cheif of new orleons police,, and it was a 1/3rd of his force,,there were over a thousand gaurdsman in the city,there barracks and equipment were flooded, they were under constant gun fire when releif efforts began..

Just today a democrat in the senate said all levels of the goverment failed,,especially the louisiana state goverment..

I call em like i see em,, im not one to watch cnn,,nor fox,, mostly cause i dont have cable or sat,, so ive been watchin the new orleans station on the net,, i dont get clips of speeches edited for one side or the others agenda,, i get the whole story an state it the way i see it..

Anyone that has any knowledge in the beroucracy of this country knows there are many who were in charge of this,, whom are bein paid by our tax dollars that dropped the ball..

So your tellin me,, if you owned a multi million dollar company and paid someone top salary to look after a certain department youd find the need to babysit them an make sure they were doin there job proper??

Then what the fuck did ya hire them for if ya gotta babysit them??

You assume they know there job an do it well,, in this case they didnt..

if theres one thing bush is guilty for is trusting his employees to much..

1. the new orleans police department is corrupt, always has been, a few of them commit suicide or turn in their badges I will shed no tears

3. the president is responsible for the security of this nation, he took it upon himself even moreso by making that his media image, he fell down by hesitating on the strategic oil reserve, hesitating on sending in troops and being hesitant in every action he has thus made
