Amsterdam would be obliterated if the same storm had struck it, you don't have any sort of evidence that hurricanes are getting more frequent or more potent, you're simply using this tragedy as a cliche for your ideology.

I've seen so much of this the past couple days, and it makes me sick.

It is not my ideology, just you guys in USA do care very little about environment.
How many times Bush does "deaf ears" everytime he heard of Kyoto Protocols?
We need to limit and/or reduce emissions of gases because they do damage our planet.

There is evidence that hurricans getting bigger and more frequents.
There is also evidence that under Bush, very little was done to reinforce those levee around NO.
There is also evidence that the Dutch Gov put so much money to reinforce their barriers.

What happen in NO is a tragedy but could be limitated if more money was spent to reinforce the levee.

Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2]
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
    If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.

Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2]
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down...

has anyone here ever heard of the 25 year cycle? or are y'all ignorant? perhaps memory loss, since you claim to know all there is about the environment. every 25 years or so we have a switch in which hemisphere gets its ass kicked by horrific storms....now it's the northern hemisphere's turn. i'm sure the southern hemisphere is happy for the break. do you think the kyoto protocals woulda saved the entire island of galveston from being under a storm surge?

very impress with your knowledge, forgot .......... u r an american ......
If this 25 years cycle was expected why Bush did do a bit to support those levees? Maybe you should have adviced him.
the kyoto protocals try to do something to help the environment, but Bush (or USA) does not want get involve in any thing to protect our world (which is for both you and me).
Some European countries are very eco friendly, I would like to invite you over to see the ways, we do help our world.

hey, i'm all for cleaning up the environment for it's own ends. i just think that THIS particular argument is bunk. you people are acting like we've NEVER had a category 5 before, much less a category 4. bush makes some lame ass decisions, but calling this hurricane bush's fault is kinda stupid. and you can't go crying for a more environmental way of life and in the same breath cry about the levees not being maintained, since the upkeep of the way of life in NO is a terrible crime against the environment: coastal tide plains and the mississippi. how 'bout y'all get your panties in a twist about that?

You can read how this Climate Change is interfering with the weather patterns in the Grist magazine, an environmental magazine. Go to the WRI.Co, this is just the beginning of calamities. And new Orleans is below sea leval, but those people had gone through many storms, this was the worst. The military is down there now. The poorest of the poor, now have no place to go.

We need to limit and/or reduce emissions of gases because they do damage our planet.

Do you know WHY George Bush has rejected the Kyoto protocol?

Because, get this, the only purpose behind the Kyoto protocol is to destroy American business.

The science is dodgy behind global warming and yet it's taken as fact, you can't question it.

But here's the rub. Even if global warming was true because of CO2 - guess which countries would HAVE to eliminate CO2? USA, Canada, Europe. Canada's already decided it can business as usual and claim an exemption cause of its trees. Europe will demand the USA comply and strangely dodge around.

    China? NO RESTRICTIONS
    India? NO RESTRICTIONS
    Africa? NO RESTRICTIONS

So guess what happens? All the factories and jobs move from USA to China and India, which is EXACTLY what these we-can't-make-money-let's-steal-it-from-the-US one-world-order types want.

Apparently CO2 from the USA is EVIL and HEATS THE WORLD but CO2 from India is a kinder, gentler, more politically correct CO2 that will have NO effect on the environment.

Basically the USA says if CO2 is a problem ALL countries must eliminate it. But that's not what Kyoto is about.

So the USA refused to sign it.

It's the only GOOD thing this government has done.
