When has pray worked? I think when my intentions for pray have not been for material gain, but for spiritual growth and assistance to ppl around me, God has not once failed. Prayer got me out of depression, prayer brought me to maturity, prayer brought me a better sense of contentment, prayer has allowed me to rid myself of a possesive (material) attitude, allowed me to get closer to my dad, allowed me to be brave and strong in persisting living Jesus' way. How about u?
I am not a, "Christian", in the form of man-made religion, but praying to Christ always yields results for me.
i'm a Christian and i talk to God alot...He is always whispering to me, His voice is so gentle. Prayer is the ultimate connectedness a human could experience. The Creator conversing with the Creation. it's beautiful.
as for getting things i want? it's not about that for me. God meets my needs before i even ask, mostly. I trust Him and it seems He just, well, takes care of me, even when He says no. He's my Daddy!
speaking as a former "christian" it always seemed to work when it wanted to, or "in mysterious ways" AKA chaotic.
stuff u and ur schizo comments leave us alone i sed this to christians we arent arguing about prayer here
I have had prayers answered. God is always working in my life and answering my prayers, my questions etc. There was a recent event though where I was in a bit of a state and I didn't know how I was going to cope with something (I don't want to go into details) and my prayers were answered within a few hours, with a totally unexpected result (something I would never have thought would happen) and it was amazing.
haha! nope not at all. i am not a schitzo (sp?), i live a fully fuctional life, i have 3 boys, a husband, a house, a car, a job, a band, ect.... Just that i dont feel like I'm a walking piece of flesh trying to find my way, because i've found it and I'm secure in my Faith. I cant HEAR GOd whisper, i just know when He's speaking, and it's never too much or too over-bearing, usually just a perfect short sentence or two. When i took Psychopathology in College, people soon learned that i was a CHristian and according to my book, anyone who thought God was thier friend was considered insane. HAAAAAAA!!!!! i thought that was hilarious. I loved that class. but, thanks for asking
I think generally when praying 'works' it is because you have convinced yourself a god is listening to them, which gives you the strength to acchieve whatever it was you were praying about. You have allowed your mind to overcome problems that are in your way, you haven't gained strength from god and praying, but have simply relabelled what you already had. It's like those people who have cancer and then think positively about life, upon which the cancer dissappears. You then think it's a miracle, but it's a mind over matter issue that isn't understood 100%. Of course we humans can't cope with not knowing how something works so we just say "god did it" and we don't have to think any further.
The prayers I know have been answered by God are things that haven't been mind over matter or been achievable by myself. They are nothing to do with strength. They are where something has come into my life, to my benefit and to help with the things I've been praying about. I don't actually want to go into details though.
