Conforming to the tendency of a more intelligent approach to music in this subforum than constantly revering the same bands over and over again, well, I came up with this here topic. It's not unique, but it's not common either. We all know of each other what music we like by now, let's see now what music we boycott. So, yeah, is there any music you'd never listen to? Why (not)?

erm, i could never listen to the likes of 50 cent for example. i saw a video the other day and i couldnt believe how daft and offensive his lyrics are. sad thing is there are young kids that look up to that guy.

as i understand your question it's not matter of distaste but dislike - refusing by principle. yes, some genres i don't listen for principles such as gangsta-hip-hop - because of advertised violence - and fabricated pop-stars - in cause of resistance to artificiality and uniformisation.

I was indeed talking about ethics / principle more than taste on itself.

    Most likely no.

Well, there's plenty of bands and musicians that I've already listened to that I plan on never listening to again, but I'll never automatically dismiss some artist that's unknown to me just because he's a rapper, or a Christian "rocker," etc etc.

Do you think that when you aren't smitten with a certain band's attitude, you'll also subconsciously like the music the band makes less than you would if you didn't know / did like their attitude?

I myself have a tendency to avoid nazi music. The music I'm in does bring you in contact with aryan supremacist bands regularly. I especially ignore bands that are very clear about their views... you wouldn't see me in a Kristallnacht or Aryan Blood shirt. There are some NSB/FM bands that are quite good (Burzum, Graveland's newest, Wyrd, Barad Dür, and I admit Falkenbach is brilliant...), but most bands somehow seem inferior to 'regular' black metal. I don't know if that's just how it is, or if I onlyfind it inferior because I despise their ideaology?

Apart from that (and Slipknot, whose blatant commercialism is NOT the way a metal band should behave, I'd hate to live in a future where metal is being directed by greed and turns as shallow as for instance Britney Speared or Assica Stinkson), I really don't avoid any music for reasons other than not liking the music. Christian bands, satanic bands, bands with criminal members (and a lot of 'em, too), empty modern pop music - if I like it, I like it and that's what everything's about for me.

yes, sure. informations about private lives of artists and show-persons i consider undesirable because later sub-conscience always whispers in background.

as for second part, that's another issue. i'm atheist but i really like spiritual music. criminals in music don't bother me as much as advertising of criminal behaviour. i can understand different reasons and motives for criminal behaviour, but not for projecting c.b. as a way of life.

Maybe... I'm trying to think of some examples..

cant think of any. :p But I'm certain there's a few bands who's off-stage lives I don't like, but I like their music anyway.

I have a difficult time listening to anything but live music. and if its live it cant be practiced. Improvisation in any genre I like- yes even country. I dont pay attention to lyrics anymore unless theyre by Phish or they are also improvised which you will only find in Rap. but the music is what I pay attention to these days.

The divine aspect of music when all the band members go off in different directions and eventually build up through the jam and then come back to each other with force and reach the crescendo-and BAM something new has been created in music and you witness it first hand if your at the concert! thats what I'm looking for in music. I try to avoid everything else.

But if I were to boycott music it would be most everything on MTV because most of that shit is created by the corporations. thats not music!

no joke compadre... the only thing i really cant listen to is excessively patriotic country music... and pop, which encompasses the genre of "country" music in its present state...

Bland passionless music with an "only in it for the money" feel/vibe in all genres except rap/electronic ravey type stuff which i avoid at all costs both "good" and bad

Gangsta hiphop and Nu metal/Emo, music that's all about self pity and hate with a certain modern rock sound to it.
