what do you guys think is more important actually playing music or listening to it? similarly do you think playing should come over writing music? just wondering hat thoughts are... personally i think a balance of all is necessary and what i try to acheive. however it is difficult to get all the pracricing an instrument demands into the time you have in a day? does anyone else find this????
well first of all, to me, music in general should be about feeling, not how well you can play your instrument or showing off. i find mental talent to be greater than physical talent. with that being said i do think there are many similarities as you said about playing music and/ or making music and listening to it. no i dont think playing music should come over actually making the music. i used to play bass guitar alot before. now i only play when i need to when im making music. i never even practice anymore. if before it used to be for the love of the instrument, its now for the love of the art. expressing yourself, through either your own music, or someone elses is the most important thing about music to me. the feelings can be the same. i actually find that certain artists music express myself better than i can with my own actually.
