did you know that everytime you walk out of the house with a brand name on your clothes, you're a walking ad?

i realized this a while ago and i thought about completely ridding myself of wearing logos and compnay names for companies i do not care about or want to show support for

any one got any ideas about how i can go about doing this? to school today im wearing a plain t-shirt and exco pants which now have duct tape covering the brand name....cant i do better? are there any companies out there that would be a good idea for me cuz they have sorta the same principles?

I'm glad you think that way! I haven't worn brand names or logos on my clothing for a long time. When you buy new things, get plain stuff with none of that on it. With what you have now, I love your idea of putting duct tape over the brand names! It really makes a statement. Don't know much about clothing companies, though. Self-made and secondhand clothes are always good.

i never wear shirts with logos. year ago there was action here in croatia to make big stores stop to sell plastic and paper bags with their brand names. supposedly, bag with brand name must be given away for free, and shop can sell only plain bags. well, nothing of it, must be merchants lobbys are too strong.

I realized that as well. The only problem is that I wear shirts until they fall apart, so I'm still wearing most of them. I started a thread asking about where to get plain tee-shirts from in the clothes section.

You could always do what the punks did back in the ol' days, just write "sucks" or "fu*k" above or below the logo.

    then stop buying name brands

do you really think the companies care if you cover their logo or not after youve already dished out (too much) money to pay for their clothes?

welll i could...but i was also thinkin that maybe if other people saw what i was doing like with duct tape on my pants or somethign....they would question me and realise that they were just corporate tools, u know? you buy something from a company, so you're doing them a favour but then they;re using you as advertisement everytime someone sees Nike written across it

i haven't worn name brand stuff in ages. i'm so aware now of just how sill people look in a total Nike outfit or whatever brand they're into.

sharpie works nice for blacking out smaller labels....

It honestly doesn't bother me or my husband to wear brand names on ourselves or our kids. If we really like the clothing, then, why not?

lol-- this reminds me of something I read in a Calvin and Hobbes x). "I pay the COMPANY to ADVERTISE!" or something such as that.
    it was funny.
    Calvin and Hobbes is excellent..

I have a friend who gets his clothing from charity and he scratches the logo off or wears the shirt inside out LOL.

I had the shopping experience of finding a shirt that was a good fit, comfy, trendy and if it weren't for the damn logo it would've been suitable for the office  As I was building my business wardrobe I fumed out of the store without a purchase cos I couldn't find anything I could wear in the office and I never returned.

Google 'iron-on transfer'. You can even print your own custom transfers with your printer.

If you like, you could even iron on the word 'sucks' below the regular 'Nike' word or whatever company name is on the shirt. :)

But be careful, though. Your school might suspend you for insulting a corporate entity. Remember that high school kid last year in Michigan who got suspended because he was wearing a T-shirt with Bush's face on it with a red 'x' on it.

But you know, things are getting more and more corporate. Schools now have areas set up on walls for advertisements. People are being paid to put ads all over their cars now. There are ads on the inside of doors in bathrooms in public places. Fast food is in school cafeterias and even some hospitals. A cell phone number list is currently being drawn up so that businesses can bother the heck out of people on their cell phones. There's even talk of putting up giant balloon satellites in orbit to advertise products in the night sky.

Yeah, I thought about getting paid for putting an ad on my car. But there's a difference between SELECTING to be paid to advertise and going into a clothing store and finding everything in there is a friggin ad and if you don't want to wear an ad then you are forced to chose to not shop at the store at all. Either way, the consumer still gets to chose in both scenarios but the store example was still a pretty lousy thing for the company to do... and they lost my business :X

I'm curious about the future of fast foods in schools however as schools are increasingly omitting junk foods from cafeterias in response to rising childhood obesity rates.
