reflectivity so important?

i have a closet covered with mylar and some foil spots also, some areas are not covered at all. just spots here and there. does that really change the light the plants get? i could spend more time and effort covering every inch but is that needed?

 

The most reflective material is flat white paint. Mylar is good for stealth if that's the issue but if not, go for flat white or 'matt' finish.

 

Reflectivity is very important.
First off, it's free lumens.
The more lumens = the bigger and better the buds.
More $ in your pocket as opposed to runnning more lights.
And less pollution.
At another site there was someone who posted pics of his growroom--bare wood walls. I kept telling him to paint or mylar the walls and he said he would as soon as he harvested the current crop.
He did, and he told me his plants grew faster and had bigger buds that were more potent.

Huh,... I always thought that lining with a reflective foil was the best. I was actually thinking about lining the entire inside with mirrors so that the light would reflect all around continually. If white paint is best wouldn't a high gloss white paint be better than a flat white paint? This thread has just messed with my head a bit about how to dress the inside of my box.

 

white reflects all colours. I believe the reason its more effective than mylar is that mylar absorbs small amounts possibly.

 

Mirrors are bad because they filter some of the wave length two times as light passes through the glasses, bounces or the reflection, and passes through the glass again. I also suspect that it would create hotspots to burn your plants. They're also exspensive and dangerous if they break. And nobody wants 7 years bad luck in the grow room.

A gallon of bright white primer is 12 bucks at the local h depot and solves the problem.

Why is Mylar more stealth? I've just never heard this.

 

mylar blocks the light from escaping and being easily viewed by people who are suspicious of the "white light" escaping from your closet at the wee hours of the morning.

If the light dont get to your plants is wasted. mylar is the best as it reflects about 98% of the light that hits it. White paint reflects about 85&, alunium foil reflests 50% and mirroer refllect about 75%.
Mylar is a bit expensive, so white paint is a cheaper and more popular option. However the emergency foil blankets they sell at camping stores is comparable to mylar and you can get it at walmart for lless then $2. I personally recommend the blanket. I had to get one today for that exact pourpouse.

The big benifit of using mylar is that is reflects heat also, which meens that less escapes from the grow room making it hardder to pick up in ir cammeras. this also mees that the rooom will get hotter and you rill need to vent is you run hotter lights.

Reflectix is great IMO. It's crazy easy to work with, damn near as good as mylar, and is an insulation!!! $50 for a 4ft X 25ft roll of the stuff........they have smaller sizes for cheaper aswell if that better suits you.......can pick it up online or at your local lowes.
