What really is right or wrong?

Let's pretend the bible is not factual. That adam and eve is the story of the beginning of the jews. We know humans existed way before their genealogy in the garden of eden. And the part about god creating the earth in 6 days and then resting sounds ridiculous too. We have proof life existed on earth way before humans and there are no literal signs of god or the devil anywhere other than what religion says. So...

What do we really know?

We are basically very fragile meat popsicles spinning around the sun on a planet full of water in an infinite universe full of stars and it's mostly empty. We are barely beginning to grasp concepts like time, light and gravity. We have relatively very short lifespans so we spend most of our lives trying to procreate. How can we ever expect to understand god or how we came into existance?

With only these basic facts and the nature of life as we can see around us, what truely is right or wrong?

Some of my observations:
How can it be right to take life away from another? Especially because of the color of skin, or because they worship an invisible god different than yours.

Greed is like cancer. It consumes everything from natural resources to people's lives. Modern society turned humans into profit machines for the benefit of few and at the expense of many. With more advanced technologies, entire nations have been wiped out. The conquistadors did it to the natives in the western hemisphere and today its done to countries with different governments and races.

What does honor mean? If I follow the beliefs in my heart, I feel like I have honor. That I am a worthwhile human being. I feel as if I have a right to breathe the air around me because I am in harmony with life and I feel the pride of who I am and where I come from.
Every civilation has passed on to their children thier beliefs and knowledge, their culture. But what if our culture is merely productivity driven for profit and convenience? What if the TV is where we get our values now?
Why do so many people today suffer from mental disorders and create suffering for others. And why is it the more advanced the civilization becomes the more isolated and emotionally detached its people become. I don't know but I get a funny feeling that maybe our priorities are out of order.

So what does make sense? Love? Is it merely an emotion to encourage procreation? An empathetic feeling that ensures the survival of my species. The years of my life are ticking away, I don't have time to figure that out. I just know it feels so right to love. And isn't everyone in pursuit of money and power so they can be loved and wanted. Is that why wealth is so important? It makes sense as far as natural selection goes. I just think we are way beyond that. We are not cavemen trying to build a fire to survive the winter. Shouldn't then respect be just as important as all these other things. Respect and honor.
I'd hate to think that just because religion is probably made up and there is no hell that I can't have faith in a creator and that how I live my life doesn't matter. The one who dies with the most toys wins is a marketing slogan that needs to go out of style. I want to be loved. I want to live a life of purpose and be happy. If anyone out there feels the same and gives me inspiration, I will call you my brother and my sister. Then I will pass the word along.

 

Good question.

My take is that there is no such thing as "right" or "wrong", which are really judgemental perceptions.
Only by realizing that life is eternal will people understand that nothing in this physical universe really matters at all, that nothing can be taken or gained, because when we leave, we leave everything behind. Life cannot be taken because it is impossible to extinguish. The body may be ruined, but it is disposable anyway. But the soul is eternally alive and cannot be harmed in any way at all. So there can be no right or wrong.
I've read that the correct translation of the ten commandments should read "Thou cannot" instead of the commonly accepted "thou shalt not." With that in mind ~ Thou cannot kill (because the soul & life is immortal), and sure makes more sense of the rest of the "commandments" when viewed in that light.

 

I've been putting some thought into this as well.

Whenever someone says "this is how it is?" I can't help but think a skeptical "why?" and whenever someone said "this is definately how it isn't?" I think an even more skeptical "why not?"

The accepted definition for reality is what the general masses make of it, but then again the Nazis came into power, so that's not a good way of looking at it.

Reason is merely the servant of intuition (I interpret that to include emotion) and something can only be deemed right or wrong if someone is made happy or unhappy by it. So in most cases, most things are neither right or wrong and fall somewhere in between.

Viewing the world so dualistically never seems to work when it comes down to it.

That's why we don't live in digital.
