At the time of the signing of the Declaration, slaves were in every colony. Self riteous northerners weren't rushing to free their slaves for the good of freedom. Where profit can be made, it shall be sought, and new yorkers saw great profit in selling blacks to the aristocrats in the South.

well, honestly, the northerners didn't give a flying fuck about the plight of the slaves. abolitionists and civil rights types were pretty rare, actually. the real concern most non-southern political types had was about how they could get the votes and power coming to them from the freed slaves.

i only read to page four so i apologize if i missed the point of something that might have come along further....

but my head hurts and i cant read on further cause its making it spin even further ;)
still had a comment or two though

first of all...blacks, whites, and every race, color, creed etc... are racist to a certain extent. it's something that isnt going to go away easily and may not ever. some people are very racist, some only 99 percent.... but....
one thing that ISN'T going to help....
is judging and putting those people down?
has more hate and meanness ever helped anything?

i forget my second point but anyways.... think about that because that is the main reason racisum (and not just in the u.s.), exists to the extent that it still does.

I understand you quite well, and I can't call this racism.
In Bulgaria there are so many Turkish. That's ok, I have nothing against them. But they can't speak Bulgarian. And nobody wants that from them. But when on the TV I saw that there are emission on Turkish,I undersood that something isn't ok.When they live in Bulgaria,I think that they must learn Bulgarian. That's them who must get used to us.

re "Andy Rooney from Sixty Minutes said"
    check out urban myths
    they say

This essay appeared in the FreeRepublic.com on-line forum back in September 2000 under the title "I Am a Bad Republican" (picking up title changes and additions since then as it was forwarded around the Internet), and the person who posted it there has taken credit for it in a recent message in that same forum.

in usa language issue is not that simple. hawaii and puert rico are part of usa and they have their own language. so, at least spanish can be declared second official language.
or, geographicaly closer example - kosovo is part of serbia. official language in serbia & montenegro is serbian, but albanians have their own language and they were speaking albanian before they become part of yugoslavia and serbia.
there are several other examples around the world.

zeljko-h, you are right too.The problem in USA is maybe more complicated. But the languages in Serbia, Macedonia, Albania are not too different.
And I think that the emissions in Turkish, the tirkish in the politics are too much!
that will be wonderfull if all the people in the world speak one language:)

serbs, macedonians, also croats and bosnians can understand each other, same as bulgarians and macedonians. but albanian is completely different language, more similar in root with romanian and italian. but that's off topic, i think.

i agree with you on the one language idea :)

I just hate any sort of racial categorising at all. Blacks this, whites that.

It's a fucking skin colour. We are all one, as has been said, let's think like that. We're people, regardless of anything else. Don't even show statistics on black/white, unless you're gonna show statistics on green eyes/blue eyes, no?

I know it's some far-fetched dream of mine to have the world actually wake up and realise that we are all people, no matter what. But we can try, right?
