conspiracy theory: explosives and barges and levee breeches...

here is an interesting theory i heard about on the morning show ACE AND TJ while driving to work.

it proposes explosives were used in calculated areas to breech the levees in order to divert flood waters away from the historic and tourist popular french quarter. there is also a clip of a huge barge (that made it's way into the canal) that rammed through the levee supposedly causing the first breech. i have not looked for info yet, but the morning show also stated divers found explosive residue when attempting to access the damage to the levee and were told to leave and not report their findings. and setting up the explosives may have been the reason for the 24 hour delay by louisiana officials in asking for federal aid in an attempt to hide it.

i have no clue what really happened, but with our government anything is possible and nothing surprises me anymore.

This is the problem with this Katrina disastor. People waste time,thought,and energy trying to place blame it on everyone but the real culprit.

MOTHER NATURE!

She smacked the crap out of us and it now appears that people can't function unless they can yell at another human for something beyond human control.

The conservatives didn't do it; the liberals didn't do it; Bush didn't do it; the poor,black people didn't do it;Michael Moore didn't do;Rush Limbaugh didn't do it.

A fucking hurricane did it. It blasted away an inferior levee that flooded a dumbly-placed city that sits below sea-level.

If anything but the hurricane is too blame...it's human arrogance and stupidity in general.

We cannot control the Earth as much as we seem to think we can and she reminded us of that quite harshly.

 

Only the levee has been in danger of breaking for years. The Bush admin did take away the money which was allocated to fix the damn thing, which puts them at blame, but this is TOO similar to "bombs blew up the Twin Towers." Really, the conspiracy theorists need to get a new angle.

Also the French Quarter is ABOVE sea level, something that the 19th ward is not. Simple physics dictates that waters seeks it's own level. Areas which are higher tend to get LESS water in a flood.

But, yes, the damn levees should have been fixed years ago.

Who the helll are Ace and TJ? Some last nameless levee experts?

 

A homeowner did tell a journalist on MSNBC that he saw two stray empty grain barges hit the levee. Not sure how reliable that account is, but someone did say they saw that happen.

There were boats a quarter mile inland, so it's not unreasonable for something like that to happen. There was what looked like a mammoth rig washed up on the ground also. A bunch of tug boats couldn't even free it.

That's something to think about if you are designing a levee. It has to hold up to not only water but anything else that might hit it.

Ashame that a few hundred million could have been spent to reinforce those levees but wasn't. We spend that amount every day on Iraq.

i am not pointing the finger at anyone. i am simply stating what i heard. i too think mother nature is mostly to blame, though the government obviously could have done more to prevent it from giving way. and maybe the storm was so strong that updating the levees would have been useless, but i think it would have helped.

and im not saying any kind of fowl play was involved, but if explosives WERE the cause, mother nature had some help, don't ya think? i don't put anything past the government. and just because the french quarter isn't below sea level doesn't mean it doesn't have the potential to flood. it is the real money maker for new orleans, so if they thought it might be destroyed.............well, who knows.

not placing blame here and i am one that needs concrete evidence and facts to beleive something...... it just makes an interesting argument, which obviously it has started.

 

these levees and disaster plans have been neglected for years and years, over several administrations, both local and federal. people sitting around waiting for thei government to take care of them didnt bother to vote in people who are going to serve their best interests and protect their safety.

 

quite a while ago I said someone would come up with this theory, I just thought it would be pressed rat.....

Discovery Channel was suggesting that UFOs sank the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior back in 1975. Thanks a lot, Discovery Channel, for even mentioning a theory that stupid on your network.

you forgot about those damned elves.. its possible that they were hard at work unscrewing every screw, and disappeared before they collapsed... very very possible.

it surely is a scary world when you cant even trust an elf.

 

Actually, Bush said the federal government was incompentent and said he took responsibility, so we were right to question the government and to place blame, everytime a disaster happens in this country the government sets up stupid investigations and don't have to worry about anyone taking blame...

 

Bungled politics, as usual.

If money was misappropriated, I'd still rather see it misappropriated on domestic projects than squandered half way around the world.
