So it seems that some people talk about having profound religious experiences while taking shrooms.

What do you guys think about that?

For the record, I have my own spiritual and religious beliefs for sure. But I don't know if I buy into the idea that taking something like shrooms will allow you to talk to God or anything. It seems to make sense that if you have a religious experience on shrooms, it's the drugs and not something spiritual.

"Did you see what God did to us man?"

"God didn't do that. It was you!"

I've read a lot about how if you are having a bad trip, that you just remind yourself "it's not real, it's just a drug, I'll be fine." So wouldn't that apply to a religious experience on shrooms? It's not really real, it's all in your head?

I don't know, I've been reading a lot of different info on it and it's confusing me plus I am running on no sleep and may crash right now.... but anyway, food for thought.

I also don't mean to offend anyone with this post. Maybe it is a doorway to spirituality. I don't know, I haven't tried them... yet. Let's let this be a friendly discussion then!

I think you can learn about yourself, and your beliefs more freely while under the influence of certain mind altering drugs. Similiar to meditation.

I hear that you can have a "religious awakening" but I didnt. I tripped about two weeks ago and I just giggled and walked around my house. I guess it depends on your mood and what kind of person you are and what is currently going on in your life.

well native american shamans use peyote for religious purposes, and I heard that you are more in touch with your spirit. When you trip you become hyper-sensitive to energy. For example, when my friend was tripping one time, I threw my hand in fornt of his face while his eyes were closed and he kinda freaked out because he said he felt my hand. So I can kinda see where people say it can be used religiously.

I use drugs for self-realization and bonding with people. Experiences are only religious if that's the vibe that was received. A person could also say "religious" and mean "spiritual".

just because your sober doesnt mean you have a clear, uncompromised truthful view of the world,in fact im pretty sure none of us do.
your idea of the universe right now is pretty much a hallucination in itself.
big fat symbolic assumptions and whatnot.
when in the drug state your mind is open, open to be changed, open to new thoughts, feelings and ideas because your repetitious sober mindset is being re-organized by chaotic sensory and emotional information and brain processes.

It will become religious when you encounter an idea or emotional mindset regarding yourself, the world or life that "fits" better with you,a new hallucination to live your life by.
or hey,its even possible that you stumble upon an idea that might actually fit in a scientific sense and can become a viable hypothesis and not some crazy faith or artistic notion floating around in your head...those are the trippiest of all

oh yah,on many trips i felt incredible peace and beauty, and on others incredible fear and panic.
No one can tell me they werent real...they were,i felt them, the reasons or theories I had which brought me to those emotional states may have been simply a random fabrication generated by mixed data and such, but i still felt that depth of emotion.
and in my opinion, its not what you "discover" or "achieve" in life that matters, its how you feel!right now!

when you take a psychedelic, it takes your mind out of the symbolic, verbal communication mindset and puts you into direct experience. on high doses, common objects, even the air seem to vibrate with electric energy, and breath with life. when you say "talk to god" your thinking of communicating in a language ( " hi god how are you")... when you not only see but feel that life energy flowing through everything, its another form of communication, when experience the world directly without an attached concept, it is what the buddhists would call being "at one" with the world. in essence you become the experience, and realize that all we ever are is what feel at the moment.

The experience with all drugs, especially psychedelics depends one the mindset of the individual user. To compare acid and shrooms is not a good idea in the first place. Acid can very easily be a social drug whereas shrooms are an extremely introverted drug. Using shrooms as a social drug is all wrong. If you are going to use shrooms with other people it should be people that you know closely and are comfortable with. Deep introspective and sometimes depressing thought is not what you want in a social situation. Shrooms are not a party drug! If you are not going to use shrooms properly, as a way of self enlightenment and understanding don't use them. I vote shrooms by the way.

First of all, is it just me or does this make no sense?

Dude, you really need to chill out. I didn't say anything to offend or judge anyone. It was merely a hypothesis, and I made it very clear that they could be a doorway to spirituality, that I didn't know, and that's why I wanted to bring the topic up. It is meant to be a friendly discussion(and thanks to everyone else in here who realizes that). Maybe you read the wrong post, or maybe you jyst take things way too wrong.

Yes, it is "all" in your head. Religious experiences come from inside; by the way you interpret your experience.

I wouldn't really call that tripping if you just giggled at stuff. Sounds more like you were high. Depends on the person too though, definitely.

It's very likely that the concept of religion first came about from drug experiences.

I dont understand why a life can't be complicated and still be seen as beautiful without having to claim that the beauty comes from a spirit or a religious enlightening comprehension of the life. Especially on mushrooms. I've had my mind blown away plenty of times and I never once considered those expiriences to be religious.

i dont like the idea of dismissing a bad trip by saying its not real. where the hell do you think it comes from? its either showing you a side of yourself you're not aware of or you've been hiding, OR it really does come from the outside. i think mushies show you what they show you for a reason, and i always try to listen to them. just because you dont like whatever you're seeing on your bad trip doesnt mean it shouldnt exist. if you tell yourself its not real you just end up sheltering yourself from the world in a little bubble.

Leary was really into the whole religion thing. Consider reading "The politics of Ecstasy" or "The Psychadelic Experience". They're not expensive books. About 10 bucks each on Amazon.com

I was going to have a full blown religous conversion on a shroom trip, but I turned it down. I ate 1/16, or half an eight of mushrooms and wasn't tripping but for some reason I could feel God proding me trying to get me to change. But I just thought, nope I don't want to change and said sorry God not tonight. I regret it though, it was like judgement because I could feel God pushing me twords changing my whole life, I could have been a compleatly differnt person after that, but nope I didn't change. So yeah I guess God can come to you during a trip, but that dosn't mean you have to be converted.

i have had religous, intense, wild, fun, and fucked up experences on many psycedelics. psycedlics open your mind. so whatever your intentions are or who you are will create your trip. it all comes from within as someone else put it. if you dont think they are religous then just try it. ask , pray while your tripping and see what happens. use with intent. psycedelics are to studying yourself (psyce) as to a microscope is to studying science. its a tool given to us that we can use and learn from. they are fun as hell as well but offer ALOT more than what other drugs do, get high.

It certaintly is possible...some trips can just be fun and enjoyable, some you can go really deep and experiencemany things you wouldn't in normal everyday awareness. I dont doubt that some people have religeous experiences...whether it be communication with pixies, talking to a tree or seeing the infinite in the hedge at the bottom of your garden!

Is life not one big religeous/spiritual experience ? The mushrooms just show us the way..
