I hate black metal only cause of their satanistic lyrics and that is ruining the whole music. Too shame. But that is the point of the black - never mind. I love Cradles music but i don't listen to it, only cause of that. I wanna see your opinion too. No hard feelings from the Blackers please :X
Cradle of Filth's lyrics are poetic. More so than any other black metal band ever... They aren't exactly black metal though. BART!!!!! Come educate this one.
I don't believe in the whole religion thing, but I'll listen to satanic lyrics. Whatever sounds good to me, I listen to. I'm more Nu Metal than Black Metal, though.
i don't listen to anything from today...no 80's, no 90's, no 2000's...so, it's all crap, in my opinion.
^_^ no problem. Well first off (some sort of disclaimer), I have to say, if she hates black metal I should and will accept that. I can only give my own opinion and hope she may be tempted to accept and embrace a genre of music that is secretly enormously enjoyable. If she doesn't, there's nothing I can do about it. And both of us know Cradle of Filth is very mild compared to the lyrical depravity of 'true' black metal. (Along the road, where have you been all this time? Haven't seen you around much lately, man!) @ Elena herself: What I think is this. There is so much more to music, any music, than just the lyrics. If you discard a whole genre only because of what the few bands you've heard (of) sing about, you are missing out on more than a lot. Especially if you actually like the music itself (which you implied, though Cradle is very different from actual black metal). Trust me. It's the music that counts in the end. The songtexts may add to the musical experience but they're just one of the many facets, and one of the most easily ignorable: most of the time you can't even hear what they're shrieking anyway, right? Now, if you tried black metal I assume you're already accustomed to other styles of metal. It can't be a very big step then, can it? Metal has never been about happiness, fluffy pink clouds, and dancing barefoot through the green grass throwing flower petals around while wearing nothing but a see-through white summer dress and fairy wings (except for Judas Priest, maybe. ). Black metal lyrics are just metal lyrics taken unto a higher level of extremity, quite like death metal but another direction. Exploration is the key. Bite through the sour apple and you may be rewarded. There are heaps upon heaps of brilliant black metal bands all over the world, and somewhere among the countless bands there will be at least one band you'd completely fall in love with, if only you dig deep enough. I've seen (and helped) it happen to so many people, being introduced to black metal from out of the blue, and less than a year later it's an inseperable part of their lives. And they are truly happy they discovered it. Just like me, after four years or something I'm still very glad. I'm still regularly discovering new stuff that totally rocks my socks off. Plenty of bands are still very much aimed at acting (yes, acting, because, offstage, black metal musicians are just as cool to hang out with as anyone) as evil as possible, but unless you're some kind of extremely orthodox christian, you'll get used to it in the end. It may not stroke with your ethical views, but remember; it's only music. You decide if you allow yourself to be influenced by the lyrics, you have the choice to seperate the music from the message. If you strongly believe behaving evil is not the way, music won't make you feel otherwise, right? And if I'd let black metal meddle with my brain in a serious way, would I post on a site like this? I mean, I care for humanity. I care for the earth. I try not to hurt people's feelings directly. Black metal does not make you evil. NOTE: I'm not as serious about the genre usually, so things like 'kill yourself or die' are purely for the entertainment value. Besides, loads but not by far all black metal bands are orientated at satanism, nationalism, glorification of warfare or general misanthropy. Darkness always laid at the root of the genre but there are a lot of bands that are much milder, have medieval themes or have pagan spirituality instead of satanism. There are even some christian black metal bands. Apart from those, of course, pentagrams and inverted crosses will always be part of the whole image, even with those bands that aren't praising satan with their music. You might try out these quality BM bands with non-satanic and/or 'mild' lyrics: Absu Ajattara ...And Oceans Ancient Wisdom Bathory (post-Under the sign...) Catamenia Cirith Gorgor Covenant (The kovenant) Cruachan Dark Fortress Dawn Enslaved Falkenbach Graveworm Immortal Isengard Keep of Kalessin Limbonic Art Naglfar Primordial Satyricon? (borderline) Solefald Summoning Taake Ulver Christian black metal: Antestor Slechtvalk Horde If you like these bands, the only one between you and even more good stuff is your (in my opinion) irrational fear of lyrical content. Classic 'evil' black metal you might want to try as well (later): Abigor Bathory (pre-Blood...) Burzum (taking into account Varg's political views and history) Darkthrone Dimmu Borgir Dissection Emperor Gorgoroth Marduk Satyricon (borderline) I hope you're willing to try out some more black metal now, and if you do, that you enjoy them as much as I do.
All I want to say to Stryper is, shut your fucking face about god because, as it's so eloquently put, he hates fags.
RE: Hair Metal Rocks Dude You have the excuse that you are in Quebec, in an area which still considers fringed leather jackets and handlebar moustaches the height of fashion
some good friends of mine are in a black metal band but i'm not too much into it. since i dont believe in religion i cant sympathize with satanists. i do like some of the music though as well as some lyricism i cant recall. not that 'i'm a demon' grunting though, that shit i dont get. can anyone point me in the direction of extremely vulgar, i'm cool but i'll fukkin kill you, anti-human type metal? pm me if so
You don't really have to sympathize with the lyrics. Racist and antihuman lyrics aren't fun, I agree. But I like the atmosphere of blasphemic black metal bands and just don't take it too seriously. I love the way of how black metal lyrics tries to bring a message for the supreme and how they act as enemies of God and his followers. Especially if there's an Scandinavian folk atmosphere added to it, or some historical background in the lyrics. However, I just see it as an art of looking different to things and don't take it too serious. Of course, if the music and/or lyrics doesn't appeal to you in any way, it stops there.
