Okay, here's my deal. I just got offered a job, at a factory that a friend of mine works at. It's a vinyl siding plant, and I'd be packing boxes of vinyl siding. It's 12 hour shifts, starting at $10.95 an hour. Plus, the shifts are rotating, so out of 2 weeks you only work 7 days. It doesn't sound too bad, at all, and I really wanna take it. However, another friend of mine just quit there, after only working 4 shifts. He HAD to quit. See, he's an artist (quite an amazing one, actually) and over the years has developed tendanitis (sp?) in his wrist. He said that before workin there, though, all he had was an occasional twinge of pain in his wrist, that made it hard to move and do things with that hand, etc. Then, he said, as he continued working there, it started getting worse and worse, and one day his wrist gave out, his hand went numb, and his fingers were all tingly, and had the pins and needles. He went to the doctor, and the doctor told him that he had tendanitis, and that the feeling he had on the last day, was a sign that carpel tunnel (sp?) was starting to set in. Since he's an artist, the doctor told him that he'd either have to choose between his job, or his art. Because he wouldn't be able to do both, for very long. So, he quit, because his art is too important to him. Now, my problem...For months now, I've had an occasional twinge of pain in my wrist, that usually last for two or three days, and makes it impossible to do pretty much anything, with that hand. And the pains just started yesterday morning, and haven't stopped. It's even hard to type, right now. Plus, I'm also an artist, and a musician. And now, I'm for the position my friend just had, which ended up fucking up his wrist pretty badly. My question to you is, do I take the job? I really want to work, and I need the money, plus the shift I'd be on is with all people that I know really well. So, I'd fit right in. However, I don't want to end up fucking with my wrist, and not being able to continue with my art. The friend that quit, advised me not to even take the job. I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
I wouldn't do it if it jeopordizes what you love to do. I mean, that sort of stuff (art, music) keeps people sane. And plus, there's other jobs out there that will love your wrists, not hurt them.
Thanks, you lovelikeair. I'm glad other people out there, are understanding of that kind of thing. Apparently everyone at this factory was mad at my friend, for quitting. And like, I don't want to have to do the same thing, have them all get mad at me, and make the friend who got me the job look bad. And anna, I do want to go to the doctors and get it checked, but I can't right now. I turn 21 in less than a week, and my medical coverage has been cut off.
carpal tunnel = vitamin b6 deficiency ( http://www.safeway.com/wellness/healthnotes.asp?org=safeway&ContentID=1018001 ) re the job: do what you love, the money will follow. <shrug> apparently this approach works for some people. be well, take care of your body.
take some glucosamine/chondroiton and wear wrist braces. see if it works out for you. if not, quit, and everyone the gets pissed at you can fuck off. beinga starving artist LOOKS romantic, but a fairly good job is pretty hard to find. i got tendonitis in both my ARMS right after i had my baby. i could barely pick her up, though i managed through the agony, thanks to proper vitamins and support.
Yeah, I definetly need to take something. I have that occasional twinge in my wrist (only comes around once in awhile) and my left ankle pops alot, and today it really hurts. I wasn't drinking as much of my soy milk as I probably should have, but I have been more and more, recently. I've been doing a fairly good job at eating healthy, I think. I found a restraunt job. Dishwashing, for $9 an hour. I couldn't believe it. That's alot of money, just for dishwashing. I had a dish job once, and it payed bloody $6.50. So yeah, that shouldn't be too bad. I start later today, so I'm kind of excited to finally be joining the work force, after so long. But that fruit sticker job would've been sweet!!!
my husband was having all kinds of joint problems, and blew out both his knees on one hiking trip! but he started on the glucosamine/chondroiton and never another problem. he's extremely active and athletic, still thinks he's 12 years old or something. it's an inexpensive way to stay outta the doctor's office.
Hehe, well, I have a big spray gun and a big machine that I just run them through. Don't know if that makes a difference, or not.
it didn't for my bro. seriously, good nutrition is of monumental importance!! lol i really need to get some sleep.
Well, I'd like to think I stay pretty healthy. Lots of greens, and lots of fruit, everyday. Plus, I eat a fair amount of soy cheese, soy meat, and things like that for protein, and calcium, and all that. I'm getting more and more into drinking lots of soy milk, to ensure the healthy bones. Hehe. Plus, lots of green tea and chai tea, which work great for cleaning out your system, and stuff. Plus, I have an excercise routine I do everyday. Including stretches, and meditation, plus some crunches and shit like that, for good measure. I've been trying to stay pretty fit lately, so hopefully that will help. I started the job last night, and it wasn't too bad. They're open pretty late (1am) which sucks, but whatever. It's really easy, though. Everyone said I did pretty well my first night. Not like it was hard, but you know. I'm not making a career out of it, or anything, I just need to do something. I need to save up some money, because my whole family's uprooting and moving to Quebec around March of next year. Plus, I have many things I want/need to buy for myself.
be careful with the soy. too much soy too quickly can sometime smake you develop an intolerance for it. i went vegan for a while and got most of my protein needs from soy. i developed a terrible intolerance for it and to this day can't eat foods with any soy in them without getting horribly sick. i was probably a little allergic to begin with, though. it's also been linked with aggression in males and kidney stones. diversify your protein / isoflavone intake!!
