after looking at other nations forum threads, it seems we dont have much to talk about... I was thinking , maybe its because we all live so far apart, there is a lot that we simply do not have in common?.....

I guess it makes it hard to talk about australia, and australians, because everyones verson of what those two words mean to you are VERY different

Nice post Retro. I can definetly understand what you're saying because I come in this Australia forum from time to time to find next to nothing. I think it's our relaxed nature that compells us not to complain about everything. And, if we do want to whinge, we usually do it in front of our partner - which explains the high divorce rate!

I think Australians just bask in the wonderful lifestyle we have. Except if we're broke .... then we get bored and try to pick up online because we have too much time on our hands.

Many of us do not have enough time on our hands. I waste too much time on hipforums as it is.

i think you might be right. in my own dark and deeply cynical way you might have hit the nail on the head - to have something halfway meaningful to say you have to be thinking. sometimes i suppose the whole forums thing turns into a battle of the wits and the halfwits. i suppose the whole thinking process has to take on board some thoughts of others and give them consideration - and i suppose the whole crux here might be that, that might be a very scary place to go for some people. from my own point of view i find most peoples minds have set like concrete by the age of 16 anyway i digress. what might be stifling things a little is the moderation of the australian forum- if people say stupid things then i guess people are going to say stupid things back - stifling this process eventually drives people away (free speech - within obvious (?) bounds), leaving the forum as barren and as dry as greater part of this wide land (i say waxing lyrical). ease up a little or the gardens not going to grow.

I tend to find that for the greater proportion what I wanted to say already got itself said, usually in the previous post, so all I can add the the conversation is "yeah, I agree", which of course makes me look like a real intellectual dynamo, so the choice becomes either to keep plodding along this easy path, avoid showing an opinion, or troll the forums like mad looking for places where I can express my opinion, which would take a huge amount of time

all that pressure before even making a post, makes me scared to have an opinion
