A few years back my dad said to me "If I ever had a faggot son, I would drown him in a bucket of water at birth" and everytime I talk to him those words go round and round in my head.

At the time i was just coming to terms with my gayness so i was kinda cut up about it.

Anyway last night me and some mates went drinking and got back to mine late at night, and started being loud, laughing, slamming doors and stuff.

So dad comes out and tells us to fuck off, and for some reason I just snapped and said "You should have died on the operating bed you cocksucker" (dad had a triple heart bypass a few years back)

He got real upset, but i feel like my actions were justified. Am I a ****?

Eiko: In my opinion, your retort wasn't justified, although it wasn't completely unjustified either.

The reason your dad came up to gripe is because you and your friends were drunk and being loud and obnoxious. You should at least have the respect (not necessarily for him, but for the situation) to apologize and quit being loud.

Either way, I do think you're justified in disliking him for his comments. I just don't think you were justified in what you said in that particular situation.

yes i think if you had said it simply one morning when youve done nothing wrong would be more appropriate to when your actually doing something that is resrupting people around you. which would have in itself not been as bad if you hadnt then told him he should have died

but the comment itself, was justified, since he effectively said he wished you were dead, you were saying it back

Two wrongs don't ... well you know the rest - anything you can do to make up with your parents is a good thing - my dad died while we were not getting along - I would truly like to go back and fix that - that’s my take on the situation for what little it is worth.
