i'm trying to ween(sp?) myself off of cigarettes(i've been on about a pack a day for a while now). i had an idea that if i started dipping skoal it would make me decrease my desire for a smoke. has anyone tried this? if yes/no, give me some feedback regardless.

My advice is hell no, you'll just be replacing one habit for another.

Thats like trying to drop the horse by slamming a buncha oxycotin. Smokings at least charming and it'll piss off people at bars. Snuffs just gross.

but it makes a lot of sense to me

i did cold turkey with no "aids" aka helps not aids...garr

um i did patches, gum, cutting down and/or switching to brands to dont like *non filtered non menthals. ew?*

so yeah i tried chewing once... imma curious cat. was nasty. might help. might decrease the physical withdrawl symptoms and turn you off.

    id try it

    not a bad idea.

imma tell you what in my experience and logic both combined tells me what is best to do

use a tool...whether it be THAT or patches, etc... wont tell you what tool to do

but i LOOOOVE cigs- i have a very strong addiction to them. ive quit over four times. the longest was 13 months and i wasnt preggie... i did it for ME. and

what brought it on? was an accident.

i was out rolling for almost a weeks at clubs, got too fucked up, smoked too much, got sick on cigs.- used a tool after but i think my psychological reasons brought the effort on

    so

    make yerself sick on them

think of the amount u smoke (dont matter what it is), take that times 3 to 10... im serious, smoke them all

    make yourself fucking HATE them

    then use a tool

ok i can tell ya what worked for me..i switched to beedies (i cant stand reg cigs anymore ) and when i wanted to quite i used a thing called "homeopathic smokers withdrawl releif" which worked wonders..ofcourse the 1st week you'll be taking alot more then the recommended 6 times a day (or when cravings hit..so its fine to take it 20 times at 1st) but after the first week the cravings get less (they go away almost instantly when u take these) by 3 weeks you'll be forgetting to take it the 6 times & might only need 3..by day 20 your fine & dandy...provided you dont have what happened to me...a real nasty breakup on day 21...lol

i did the gum thing and it worked well. the main thing now is just not giving in to the desire to smoke. its the battle of the mind that has to be won now instead of taking on the NEED for nicotine

chewing tobacco is equally bad for you though, and quite more unappealing in my and most people's opinions. if you want to try a nicotine supplement, i know they're expensive but something like gum or patches or an inhaler (something with a gauged dose of nicotine and medically designed to not have too many negative consequences such as cancer...) is really the way to go. i never tried the inhaler. i tried patches a few times, and i would advise against them. first they itch bad, then the first couple times you use them they make you sick feeling. you dont want a cigarette, but thats because you're CONSTANTLY getting nicotine. left me just as addicted as if i'd been smoking all along. gum is low nicotine, just enough to fight off a nic fit, and since you only use it when you want, you can, with a little will power, space it out as long as possible between peices. its still tough, but it helps you systematically break down the addiction a lot faster than patches, in my experience.

chewing tobacco will give you a large amount of nicotine though and do terrible damage to your body. if you're going to use tobacco, you can use whatever you want, but i'd only smoke it (though i'd be tempted to try snuff, but never chewing tobacco...course snuff is gross too, i'm sure, but hell...its tobacco for my nose :p)

i had 3 chews yesterday in addition to the smoking and i found that the chew does satisfy the craving quite fully. however, for some reason, it is not as satisfying as a cigarette. also, i can't eat or drink anything when i have it in(i'm sure if you're skilled you could). so basically i like it but it is pretty damn disgusting and i can feel it cutting up my lip even today. so maybe the beedies is a possibility. thanks for your comments.

The smoking addiction goes further than the nicotine. There is also the "habit part" of holding it in your hand, putting it to your lips, ect. I am on the patch right now, and it is working. I haven't had much of a desire to smoke since my sons been born anyway. First off, you have to actually want to quit. This is the most important thing. Second, there are a few other habit that you have to change or stop on for a while. Example, If you like to smoke while drinking coffee, try drinking tea. If you sit on the back porch while smoking, try sitting onthe front porch....... If you like to smoke after meals, stop eating. This will also help with the weight gain, also.:)
