    Tundra-thanks for the link-I'll check it out-Your friend Jack is like alot of other musicians ;myself included; who loved playin in the clubs; but found that going hungry at times sucks-The life of a typical musician is a struggle for survival-I know I got tired of not knowing where the next meal was comin from-some get lucky-alot don't-but the one thing I have is some great memories of playin in different groups-You were in Europe in 73'? Iwas there in 70'-lived and played in Rome for 5 months-Me and my partner stayed and played in Europe all of 70'-loved it-but glad to get home-S.F.-Where were you in Greece?-We went to Crete for 2 wks.-great-very friendly' loving people-wow-what a history they have!That is the cradle of civilization and I had complete respect and admiration for those people-Hell'-we speak their language-I went to the Isle Of Wight festival in England-the European Woodstock-real good time-the music was excellent and so was the hash-Wow-to be 18 and freewheelin again-I would always suggest to kids fresh out of high school to go there-to Europe and find their roots-great adventure and learning experiance-For some reason -Rome looked and felt alot like San Francisco-I just may go back-hope their not throwin rocks at Americans now-lol-1970 was a long time ago---

    Tundra-good deal-thats a good song-I downloaded it last week--I have seen the R.Crumb group on tv once-oltime music-they were good-but' I hope he don't give up the writing-The Freak Bros.-Fat Freddies Cat-and all his other stuff is fantastic-It has to be the funniest comics ever-Similar to Bevis and Butthead--I saw Bonnie Rait on Austin City Limits last night-great!--John Prine came out and they sang Angel From Montgomery together-As far as folk music goes-I love the sound of accoustic guitars-One of my favorites is Tom Rush W/Driving Wheel-Have you checked out Allmusic.com?--they have anything thats ever been recorded-Tower records uses them. You can order anything ya want-they have it-bye-now-Rob

    Rob,
    Matala Crete for a few weeks of the Summer and was there a cast of charactors there! I do believe Joni Mitchell was at the full moon festival one night dancing like a bachante. We started in Paris and did the gypsy thing untill we stopped in Crete that year-try doing something of the sort in this day and age! COst you a fortune!
    You live in Austin then? Sounds like the place to be if you like good music! We had an underground rock station for a while up here that played some really great stuff. They went commercial in '77 and I am still mourning the loss. I will have to check your link out though I really don't mind spending the money on excellent CDs as I tend to share them with friends and family and to this day I still enjoy knocking peoples' socks off with tunes that are nowhere on the popular culture map. If there is a better way though...
    Back in the day I was going to be a writer... what they did not tell us was that almost nobody makes a living at these glory endeavors. Then the kids showed up and there was no living the warrior existence after that. Jack did better at his chosen line of work as he made a damn good living throughout the seventies. He once estimated that he had slept with something like 700 women during that period and made something close to doctors' wages for a few years. Then came the 80s and the crackdowns on partyers and the club scene just plain dried up. I recently made a DVD with his old stuff for a soundtrack and it came out pretty good. The guy has this talent that just comes shining through.

    ROb,
    PS. Robert Crumb lives in France and is still drawing AND doing his offbeat musical thing, as well as doing collections of old 78 French musical songs on CD (I just bought "Hot Women" off Amazon and it has a few zappers)

    You were saying earlier how it seems so many artists only do one excellent album? That's about correct. Are The NEw Riders of the Purple Stage still down in Austin? They had that LP with "Glendale Train" that was a thumper. I think I will pick that up too now that you've got me on an oldies kick!

    The hard thing is narrowing it down to five, but I'll try......

    Crystal blue persuasion by Tommy James and the shondels, Goin to California by Led zeppelin, These Eyes by The Guess Who, I've got a name by Jim Croce, Bellbottom Blues by Derek and the Dominos

    But theres no way to narrow it down to 5 songs, I just thought I'd add to the list incase anyone needs suggestions on what mp3s to download

    Rob,
    The young folks seem to be naming Top 40 hits. There was something else going on back then that they should know about...

    The Dead never recorded "One Toke Over The Line". That was Brewer & Shipley

    Thumbs up on "Sweet Emotion" I'm sick of most overplayed hits but not this one.

    Rob,
    Well I was looking for some more vintage Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen stuff and wound up picking up some remastered New Riders of the Purple Sage oldies (also ordered a Donna Summer last week?! Well the gal could sing!) At any rate; "On the Amazon" is on this disc live;
    "Well I used to be a drummer,
    but it got to be a bummer,
    Now I am a smuggler on the Amazon!"
    Kind of the theme song of those people the "High Times" magazine used to write about. Johnny Depp could have used this tune for that movie where he was the smuggler but I bet nobody in Hollywood has much heard of it.
    haha,

    How could I forget about "Strychnine" by The Sonics? That might be my favorite song ever.

    Grim,
    Never heard of that one-"Strychnine"? Rat Poison as I recall and the paranoid rumors had it that the KKK was selling it as some kind of street drug. Bad, physically destructive and Lowgrade stuff... Now I had some connections back in the day and the real quality hashish was coming out of NYC? Blonde Lebanese, Nepalise Temple Balls, Afghani... The Vietnamese stuff was the best in the world. If you want to do some really good drugs in this day and age there are some cafes in Amsterdam...

    PS. I picked up some Laura Nyro recordings this day-"New York Nights" my friend "Josh" used to say of that...

    Lota good songs listed here...

    I'm currently recording my old White Album onto the computer so I can burn some mix CDs and just rediscovered Revolution 9 by the Beatles.

    Now don't that song just sorta catch the feel of the times?

    (Turn it up and use headphones).

    Grim;
    OK-whodunnit? My friend "Jack" spent his 16th year grounded by his psycho parents. Well it was time well spent as he taught himself guitar and every Rolling Stone song he could find. Still does a "Dear Doctor" to knock your socks off. "Strychnine"? I guess I think you are pulling my leg on this one.

    "Strychnine" was originally on Here Are The Sonics album in 1965 but probably the best way to get it is from the Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 CD box set.

    One time in my car I played it 6 times in a row. Its pretty short.
