Woman sues Denny's over toilet burns Jul. 28, 2005 at 9:56PM A Kansas woman has filed a lawsuit seeking damages for severe burns on her rear end caused by chemicals used to clean a toilet at a Denny's Restaurant. Kathleen Williams' suit names Denny's Corp. and Jomar Investments LLC, owner of the St. Louis-area Denny's where she was injured. Williams claims she did not see the chemicals but felt them as soon as she sat down. Pedro Irigonegaray, her lawyer, said that she had to be hospitalized immediately and suffered permanent injuries. "Sadly, as a result of the chemical injury, nerves were injured that create a sensation of pain 24 hours a day," Irigonegaray told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He said Williams has to take medication for pain and wear special underpants designed for burn victims.
Well, I don't think I would sue someone for that. . .I mean, it's not Denny's fault that she reacted that way to the chemicals. I mean, if that's the case, I suppose she should sue her butt! lol
did the article say what sort of chemicals they used? i don't see how a common cleaning product can cause an immediate, nerve-damagine burn... unless some new employee forgot to dilute a harsh chemical. but hey, if the stuff is strong enough to burn you that severly, at least we know germs/viruses don't have a chance of surviving on that toilet seat.
if it was the chemical and her reaction she should sue the makers and do something to get denny's to post what chemicals they used if an employee fucked up it's their fault if an employee fucked up because they weren't trained right, denny's fault again...
I'm so tired of everyone always assuming the anti-American stance in every single case, even when it's logical. if it was you I'm sure it'd be a different story, she has severe BURNS on her body because of some dumb mistake an employee made, she has a right to sue. on the other hand as someone already said I don't see how regular cleaning products can cause that. THAT'S fishy, but if what the article said is true then she deserves every penny she can get. I'm so annoyed with everyone just shitting on Americans 24/7 because it's the cool thing to do nowadays.
Yeah I agree with you, A lot of the America Bashers don't understand that if that lady was really hurt by those chemicals she could go broke trying to just get some relief from her burnining ass. We don't have a free health care system like our other english speaking counterparts. In america if you get sick or hurt and you were too poor to aford health insurance then you are going to go completely broke.
that damn Lenny's, er Denny's.. I think its ridiculous what people can sue for, most of it is just plan laughable...
That's nuthin. Lenny down at the local bar got himself hurt using the john in the back. It's a pretty nasty, dark vile area - like all dive bars.... He was screaming his head off. Every time he went to flush he had this searing pain in his happy sacs. We raced to see what's wrong. Turned out he was so drunk and out of it he was in the broom closet on the mop bucket by mistake and he was turning that automatic mop-wringer handle.
Not very funny actually, when you come think about it. edit: Well, that was actually quite amusing, hehehhe. But seriously, maybe she was suffering really bad. The but is just a normal body part. She could have been in pain. Most probably she was. I would probably have sued that resturant, too, especially if it would have made som permanent damage.
why though? how did the restuarant know what irritates your skin and what doesnt, its not their fault, ya know...
It's really hard to say if she should have sued or not. If the story is true as she told it, I think she has the right to some compensation. I do have to wonder about the chemicals they used to clean the toilets though. My God, do they have to be that strong?? Maybe Denny's was worried about someone suing for getting some disease off of the toilet seat.. Ya' gotta' wonder...
