I'm proud of my first callous. I've had callouses on my fingers before because I've played the cello since I was in the 4th grade but stopped when I dropped out at 16. I was never really crazy about playing the cello anyway. But I love music and I've always been magnetically drawn to the guitar. And after going through a couple of guys for their guitars, I thought I'd cut out the middle man. So anyway, I started playing less than a week ago almost constantly and I noticed a little callous on my finger. It's so cool! I don't even know why but it is! Anyway, I'm proud of my little callous!

You should be. it is always rewarding when your skin lets you know how hard you are working. that patch of dead and hardened cells is telling you one thing, keep headbanging.

I never really owned a cello, I always used the old school instruments. Even my guitar is an old hand-me-down. I've never broken in an instrument on my own before. I don't know if it's better or worse or if it even matters. I kind of like old instruments though because it's like an old shoe, it's really comfortable. The wood is nice and smooth without that weird wax that squeaks if you rub it. And because the cello belonged to the school, you could see the little marks other kids had made for the fingering. A lot of history... that's kinda my thing...

I've been playing guitar for about 1 year and I have callouses on all 4 (fingering) fingers on my left hand. Maybe a little bit on my right thumb and right index too. Yeah they make it easier to play, especially on an acoustic that's got a high action (that will hurt your fingers bad if they're all soft).

Yeah, you either suck at guitar or don't play at all.

All my fingers are calloused, except my left thumb and right little finger, and thats because I'm and obsessive (badass) guitarist.

You know you've practiced enough when your fingers begin to bleed.

All lead guitarists have big egos. Especially the ones that are also lead vocals.

I've never had my fingers bleed on my fretting hand, but my thumb on my picking hand used to bust open every once in awhile, but never when playing with my hands, only with a pick.

    HAHA :D Right on.

I got my first callouses when I was 8. It was thrilling :D.

Then my fingers bled on my fret hand when I was 12 or so... But I shred the tops a lot on my right though, from strumming too hard.. I should try to use a pick.. ahha..

Anyways, first callouses are really frickin exciting :D Congrats.
