What's the best period of music?

I, personally, cannot survive without the albums that were made from 1965 to 1970. They're essential for my collection, so I voted for that period.

And the music of the 60's and 70's is much better than the stuff today. Also this generation is much more conservative and sqaures. The 70's were a much cooler time and the fashions were much better. I not only listen to the music of the 60's and 70's but i waer bell-bottms, and my whole clothes are from the 70's. I love to piss people off like you who would have a problem with me. you can all FUCK OFF. also your whole generation can FUCK OFF.

That's not really true. There've been studies that show that the majority of younger people (18-25) who are living now are mostly libertarian and lean towards the left.

I know I'm part of this generation but I am a thorn in it. I am a person of this generation who choses out of free will to dress in the style of a previous generation.

 

I'm pretty sure all of the people dissing music made past say 1974 probably can't name any modern music artists or movements. By the way, dressing like a previous generation doesn't make you the least bit unusual or rebellious.. I'm sure over half the people on the site are wearing a tie-dye shirt as we speak-- I know I am! Water_baby, listening to classic rock and wearing 70s clothes in no way makes you unique.. it makes you more like stereotyped parody hippies from that one Southpark episode.

 

im personally really enjoying the music of the past 5-15 years the most. i can only expect it to get better in the next 5 years.

 

I'd say '65-'70 because I'm really into the acid rock and contemporary folk music of that time. But there should have been earlier eras in the poll; I really love the Romantic composers of the 19th century too.

 

Is that because you prefer Hip Hop? Because obviously Hip Hop music was new and at it's best in the past 15 years.

 

There's not enough space to fill far back to the 19th century. Only 10 spots are allowed. I wanted to have 1950-1955 but chose instead to include 2000-2005 for very obvious reasons.

 

no...i hate hip hop, at least 95% of what i have heard at least.

the music i am talking about is some of the bands and artists of the 90's like built to spill, guided by voices, pavement, my bloody valentine, the flaming lips, neutral milk hotel, yo la tengo and elliott smith. Mainly alot of the indie stuff, i guess you could call it...im not very good or fond of genre's.

of the artists of the last 5 years, there has been a great new movement in folk, with artists like devendra banhart, joanna newsom, iron and wine, and including the huge finnish folk explosion thats happening that i havent really looked deeply into...gotta do that.

and of course there is just such diverse music now with artists such as the books, the decemberists, wilco, andrew bird, sufjan stevens, the fiery furnaces, dungen, deerhoof, i could go on forever! and thats only just a spec of what there is...but there is just so much that is out there right now that, of course many people may not enjoy it as much as i, but to me its the best there is. music didnt die after the 60's...

there is more music out there besides whats on the radio...you just got to keep an ear and your mind open.

This is a tuff one. As far as the given guidelines for this poll I'd have to pick 65-70. The Beatles were already here. Bands like Cream were rocking with old Blues tunes. Folk music was big. Psychadelia was coming into it's own, and Heavy Metal ruled the world. But on the other hand we had the Monkee's, The Archies, and a the Bubblegum phenomenom.

 

1966 thru 1972 . not 1970 1965 or 1966 is debatable but it was good until 1972 by 1973 only Alice cooper billion dollar babies tour was hot. 1974 things were dead.

 

This is a very simple analogy. Things are more complex. Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies album or tour wasn't the only big thing of 1973!!!! This is such a very bad story. It's retarded. not 1970, 1965 what the fuck is this bullshit I am reading?
